9/11 Reaction Paper

September 9, 2001 was a moment in everyone’s lives where everything changed. This attack was arguably the worst terrorists attack the world has ever seen. It felt like it took away our freedom. Faith and Doubt at Ground Zero was a fascinating video that covered everyone that went on before, during, and after the 9/11 attacks. It went over the spiritual views of the families who lost their loved ones in the attack. They talked about what their faith and believe was like before and after the attacks. Some said if there was a God, why would he let this happen? Others said this attack was not by our God, but it was by the devil. However the remaining few stated they did not believe in God before and after 9/11. During the video everyone had their own story and reflection on 9/11, but there was one particular story that caught my eye. The story I found amazing was the story of the woman who lost her mother. She talked about how she lost her mother during the attacks. She still always thinks about her last words to her, last texts to her, and
However, over the years before 9/11 she grew disillusioned to the church and the Catholic system, until the terrible acts of 9/11. She obsessed about if she was burned, their last conversation, and even if she appreciated her enough. She decided to sit alone in her local church to feel the solitude and lay at the feet of the alter. She began to think about her mother’s memorial mass, where she thought it would have no affect on her getting better, but she started to feel comfortable. She heard the sermon of the Priest saying that this attack was not God’s will and that we cannot find anything good in this. This attack made her re-examine all her feelings about how she did not need to re-enter the church community. She wants the church’s teachings on spiritual life after death to be true.
