Many teenagers who watch the show see girls becoming more and more famous. The girls start other shows or even end up in magazines. When young people see this it makes them think that they could become famous if they have a child. A high school education is a cornerstone of the development, mentally and physically, of American students. In Leon Botstein’s opinion essay, entitled “Let Teenagers Try Adulthood”, he writes on how American high schools do not sufficiently prepare their students for life outside of the education system. Throughout Botstein’s essay, he adequately asserts his claim that secondary education does not aid students in the way that it was designed to, and has instead become a hindrance on the appeal to learning and how students will survive adulthood. Adolescents are closely guided through the years of their education before being tossed into the tub of ice water that is adulthood with very little preparation. Between constantly being told that…

“Gym, Tanning, Laundry”, these three words have become increasingly popular among teenagers because of MTV’s hit reality television show, Jersey Shore. Television shows and their stars can become very influential to many of their viewers. Many of these viewers strive to be like these stars and mimic their style and attitude, in hopes of living the same careless lifestyle that has made these stars known around the world. Unfortunately, these television shows don’t always portray certain aspects of life realistically, and therefore send a false message that can be very deceiving. Studies show that television shows tend to follow several popular trends that do indeed portray the wrong reality.…

Personally, I don’t watch reality TV, but there are a lot of young viewers that do. Shows like Jersey Shore has a huge impact on especially my generation because at this age teens go to parties whether it’s freshman year of high school or “grade 12, nearly 70% of these teenagers have exhibited some form of alcohol misuse within the past year” (Ellickson). We are still young and want to have “fun”. These shows teach us wrong values of life, for example Jersey Shore is all about a couple of young adults drinking and partying almost every night. Getting into physical and verbal fights is a normal night for them, all the young teens and kids watching the show think that this is how life should be. Before you know they are doing exactly what that reality TV taught them. In addition without any supervision of adults this can really corrupt the younger generation to act as if they were in a reality TV show.…

This is a time in an adolescent’s life where they feel the most need for acceptance from their peers. They have a need to be more experimental, innovative and sometimes controversial. They are at a time where they have to keep reinventing themselves so they fit in with their peers and society in general. Teenagers emphasise freedom but with this freedom come responsibilities and obligations that they don’t want nor do they think they need. Teenagers are at an age where they think they are adults but they don’t understand…

American teenagers take a lot of things for granted, but what we don’t take into consideration is what would happen if these things suddenly disappeared. Teenage life consists of school, jobs, driving, friends, sports, and going out with friends. We never consider others’ way of life. In some cultures, they are just fighting to stay alive, while others don’t have the freedom to go out with friends, or play a certain sport. They are so consumed in family life or their future jobs that they have no social life. No one ever thinks what would happen if their way of life was completely turned around. This concept is shown on a reality television show called 16 and Pregnant. It follows a group of teenage girls throughout their pregnancy and a few weeks after. It shows the trials, worries, and changes in these girls’ lives. There is also a follow up show called Teen Mom that follows 4 girls from the first season of the show. I will be expanding on these girls’ lives from the beginning of their pregnancy to their lives now.…

Television, one of the World's favorite technology. With billions of people watching, you would think that television stations would air shows that would be fruit for the mind, something that they could learn from. Sadly, this is not quite the case. Audiences are fed poison in the form of absurd reality TV shows. When watching an episode of MTV'S "Jersey Shore", one would agree that this provides nothing for the mind, body and/or soul. Most reality shows are exactly that, pointless with no educational purpose. Most. There are an elite few of these types of shows in which, not only entertain immensely, but also serve a deeper meaning. MTV'S debut of "True Life" was an immediate success. The show follows the lives of certain individuals that you wouldn't really expect to be on television; heroine addicts, homosexuals, surrogates, texaholics, diabetes, embarrassing parents, the list could literally go on and on. This show is about struggles with the choices people made, and I believe that watching it could serve as a warning to the audience who might go down the same road.…

As a culture Hip-Hop includes four main categories of expression; Mixing, Dancing, Graffiti Art and Rapping, known as MC 'ing. Hip-Hop was first recognised in New York around the mid 1970s, considered as a reaction to social movements of the time. In America the 70s and 80s were subject to negative behaviour towards black communities which consisted of Jamaican and Puerto Ricans as well as African-Americans, it was argued that the ruling of Reagan led to this behaviour. Hip-Hop culture was seen as an escape from the explosion of gang violence throughout the 1970s and 80s, providing black American youths with a space for expression, this freedom of speech led to the spreading of Hip-Hop to other cities where black communities…

They managed to build up their brand and be a key channel for promotion where artists where demanding to have their own videos played on MTV. MTV remains a strong brand within the youth segment but needs to constantly evolve in order to maintain their position with new trends and changes emerging. The brand associations are strong since they are attached to a certain target-group (youths) that is very desirable to reach for many advertisers. The adolescence and early adulthood that MTV reaches are important for establishing enduring preferences for a specific type of brand that might follow a person throughout his life. Viewed as very “hip and now” many teens look to the channel to see what is popular and what the up and coming trends of today are. MTV has very strong brand attributes, with its viewers and even with people that do not view the channel as one they would frequently watch, therefore giving the brand strong brand associations. MTV has core values of staying on top of music and cultural trends, as a result ensuring their continued growth of their audience; MTV needs to stay relevant to stay on top.…
