9500 Liberty Film Analysis
This past weekend a close friend of mine encouraged me to go see the documentary 9500 Liberty that was playing on Friday. Honestly I only went to be nice to my friend however as I sat and watched the documentary I quickly became very engaged. The film was about a county in Virginia which was trying to implement laws which negatively affected the steadily increasing Latino community in the area. This documentary was fantastically done and was very emotionally gripping. I was really upset because of the racist comments that were said by the Caucasian residents. It became a very ugly battle which surpassed the original purpose of the whole issue.Throughout the movie I was constantly becoming more and more angry at the behavior of the opposing

The Conspirator is a movie made in 2010 directed by Robert Redford. The whole point of making this movie was to bring history to life. Through other movies made by Hollywood, the truth of the story is very small. In this movie, they went back and went as historically correct to the time after Abraham Lincoln’s assassination.…

The seven deadly sins, gluttony, greed, lust, sloth, pride, envy and wrath, are all emotions that nearly every individual experience each day throughout their lives because of the social, political and economic factors that surround us each day. However, what would happen if we were truly punished for allowing these emotions to control us? This question establishes the plot for the film Se7en starring Morgan Freeman, Brad Pitt and Gwyneth Paltrow which was released in 1995. Nonetheless, the film does not solely focus on the seven deadly sins and the punishments that go along with them but raise questions moral questions about psychopathy and policing in today’s culture. In this essay I will discuss the how the film Se7en’s portrayal of policing in pop culture is reflective of the dialectical relationship and socio-historic context that was present in 1995 when the film was produced, based and released. Furthermore, I will pay particular attention to the influence race has on policing as this was the first cop film that allowed the lead detective to be a man of colour. Additionally, to…

Some of the major people include Andy Warhol, played by David Bowie (RIP), who was his mentor, and Rene Ricard, played by Michael Wincott, was an art critic and poet. His most steady relationship is with Gina, a waitress that he met and drew in syrup on a table at the cafe she worked in. She is played by Claire Forlani. Basquait interacts with many other people as well. Some in an inspirational, such as the limo driver that conversed with, but also some people negatively. He believed that the white woman he worked for as an electricians assistant looked down at him because she didn’t know his name, and asked him to move things out of the way for her. Evans advised he worked as a photographer for a magazine in New York.Evans bragged that he had helped other women become “big time models.” Rebecca Arnold rejected Evan’s offer. Moving forward to 1998 Evans contacted Arnold at her home, but she was not there so he left a message with her father. On the second time, Evans called Arnold’s home; her father told Evans never to call again. It was in 2000 when Arnold saw Evans in a store parking lot. The documentary “Race and Terror”, by VICE news documents the events that happened during the Charlottesville rallies, and the protestors’ views on the results of the protest. Throughout the film, Vice news portrayed obedience, violence, and authority shown by white nationalist, alt-righters, and neo-nazis in order to explore human identities. The documentary relates to the first two units that we have learned in our psychology course, more specifically prejudice, empathy gap, morality, and cognitive dissonance. As a Hispanic, I suppose I should expect or, be prepared, rather, for racism and discrimination. Thankfully, I have not experienced either.. yet. Our world is not perfect; things take place that we rather not know about, but ignoring the problem seems to only make matters worse. The movie American History X, is an admirable attempt to inform us about these types of malicious ignorance that plague our society. The impeccable acting, artistic cinematography, occasional adrenaline-pumping score, and slightly faulted, though award-worthy script, all combine to create an overall exceptional film. American History X should not be immediately dismissed as an archetypal account of a controversial issue, it provides much more than what an audience would expect from a movie of this nature; it is an innovative drama about the unfortunate consequences of racism in a family that is surprisingly yet, frighteningly realistic.…

I had intended on going to the vigil Wednesday night (2/8) but much to my dismay, there was no vigil (or I missed it). So instead of attending a diversity event for this paper, I watched a documentary on Netflix called 13th. This film discusses the issue of racism in the United States criminal justice system; specifically relating to how the 13th amendment transformed the view of African Americans from slaves to criminals.…

Over the last two centuries, our society has grappled with the perpetual strife of perceived racial discrimination. Inalienable Rights and founding principles of our nation have been tarnished by the belief that these are mere privileges, reserved for a select few fortunate enough to indulge in such luxuries. However, the last few decades have ushered into existence a transformed nation, where Supreme Court cases and social revolutions have seemingly eroded the dichotomous barriers of race. On one end of the spectrum, open wounds of our nation’s tumultuous past have been stung by the racial inequities of household income and a maliciously disproportionate incarceration system. On the other end of the spectrum, patriotism and unity swell to heights of exuberance at the sight of the increasingly diverse entertainment industry and…

I learned many new things from this video. I learned that many people died in the black’s non-violent revolution for freedom and rights. I also learned that most African Americans were paid an average of only about $700. African Americans were denied education at all white schools, and were only allowed a less than average education at black schools. Under the Supreme Court ruling in Brown vs. Board of Education, a number of African American Honors students integrated Little Rock Central High School in 1957. Every day they had to endure abuse from a huge angry mob that protested integration and wanted segregation. I feel that I would not have been able to put up with all that abuse. Those nine students that integrated Central High had great determination and never gave up hope. I also learned that it was a very long and hard struggle for all blacks during the Civil Rights Movement. The KKK terrorized blacks and killed them. Many African Americans were killed before they won the rights that they deserve. I was very proud of all the African Americans that participated in things like the Montgomery bus boycott because it showed that they weren’t afraid of standing up for themselves. I felt joyful that they always had the courage to stay non-violent, because if they turned to violence, the situation would not have turned out the same way. Now I will do anything that I can to eliminate discrimination of anyone because it is a very serious and destructive…

The effect that was made in the students facing these problems in their schools was very terrifying, some of them were in a point of being embarrassed of their heritage. They were embarrassed of being Mexican Americans, and this was something that had to be changed. The rise up of the Chicano students to demand their district officials for equal education rights in their school, was a movement that made the Chicano voice strong not only at East LA but all over the country. This is one point everyone should be able to understand, the video gives us the struggles Mexican Americans were facing at the time, and how they became together to overcome this issue is an example of unity something that we need to do now a days to become stronger and make our voices heard as a…

The Salem Witch Trials are possibly the most notable examples of the persecution of witchcraft in the New World. In the 1996 film, The Crucible, based on the 1953 play by Arthur Miller, it portrays the trials from the point of view of a small community that’s disintegrated by frenzy and lunacy. In the film, it emphasizes the role of a group of girls being led by Abigail Williams, and illustrates how society was so strict for women, even as young as kids, that it caused a form of hysterical fear of witches, spirits and the Devil. These group of girls created an outlet of their own from their reality. The witch trials have been long used in political content as well as literature as a story to take into account how dangers of alienation, religious…
