To be a social worker, it is important to have empathy, social perceptiveness, and the critical thinking in order to help provide self awareness and self help in others. In order to be an effective social worker empathy is very important in the field. It allows someone to understand others difficulties. Even though one may not have experienced it themselves, one can understand the client. I feel as though with my background experience it has taught me to see the different views and perspectives of others and allows me to have that empathy and relate to others. Social perceptiveness is another highly important trait strength that I can contribute to the field of social work. Being a social worker does not mean solving all the problems for someone it means helping them find solutions on their own that they love, that they are comfortable with. I choose social work because it is the one mental health profession that can help all people. I would like to pursue counseling with my degree, it allows me to help save the world one person at a time.
