A Caronna Adella Grisi
Carlotta Grisi a.k.a Caronna Adela Giuseppina Maria Grisi was born June 28, 1819. Her birthplace was Visinada, Istria, Austrian Empire which is today’s Vizinada, Croatia. She died May 29, 1899 in Saint Jean near Geneva, Switzerland. Carlotta Grisi was an Italian ballerina of the Romantic era. She had a great influence on choreographer and dancer, Jules Perrot and poet Théophile Gautier. She created the title role in Gisselle which is ballet by the French composer Adolphe Adam. She received early training for ballet in ballet school of La Scala in Milan. Carlotta came from a poor family. At age 10, Carlotta was withdrawn from the ballet school to join a touring opera company. In 1834, Grisi entered the ballet company of San Carlo, Naples. There,
