Compare and Contrast A Christmas Carol, both the play and the movie, have many similarities with just as many differences. Although the movie was created as a follow-up to the play, there were many times where the movie was completely different. On occasion, there would be times where you could follow along to the movie with the script, but most of the time, it would be somewhat the same. The script compared to the movie is more informing and fills in empty holes. Although watching the movie is easier, in order to get all of the facts straight, it would be better to read the script or see the play.
There are many different things that happen during the play that lead to life changing

Much like the play, the movie shows that Scrooge is an old man who always frowns and has a hateful heart. Ebenezer Scrooge works at a bank like job, where he is not lenient on those who owe him money no matter the time of year. “They owe me money and I will collect. I’ll have them jailed, if I have to. They owe me money and I will collect what is due to me.” (Dickens 1) As you learn from the play, three ghost visit Scrooge overnight, The Ghost of Christmas Past, The Ghost of Christmas Present, and The Ghost of Christmas Present, and show him about his life in 3rd person view. Scrooge has a change of heart after being frightened at the place where Future had taken him, and he vows to become a different man. Both the movie and the play are acted by real people who are good at getting into character. When you are looking for similarities, you find that many things float to the surface that pertain to both the play and the …show more content…
One of the more obvious ones is in the movie, the characters will occasionally leave out lines or change the words, showing they didn’t completely follow the script. Another is that the play begins with Jacob Marley speaking to Scrooge, but the movie begins with Scrooge in his office at work. The movie shows a part where Scrooge is greedy and steals the coins for Marley’s deceased eyes, but that scene is never mentioned in the play. Scrooge and Fan are told to be younger in the theatrical performance, but are played by older characters in the movie. In the play, Scrooge’s nephew comes to visit Scrooge’s work and his name is never addresses, but he is called Fred at that time in the movie. The movie shows that Bob and Mrs. Cratchit have only 2 kids, but the play states they have more than that. Although only a few differences were listed, with more research you could find plenty

Another difference that I noticed is concerning Curley's wife. In the book there is a scene where Lennie, Candy and Crooks are gathered in Crooks' room. After a while, Curley's wife emerges and the atmosphere becomes unpleasant. Crooks finds the courage to stand up against her, and when he does, she verbally breaks him down. In the movie this scene never takes place, and by eliminating this incident Curley's wife's destructive nature stays unrevealed.…

In the play the man in the gown has a green robe and in the movie he has a dark green robe. In the movie they go to the past and see where he lived at, and when the SCP asked him if he wanted to see his kids he said no. In the play he wasn’t asked to see the children. When the man in the green robe was done he didn’t take Mr. Scrooge back…

I compared Act One, Scene 2, in the play and the film. The setting in the play is on a Saturday morning, and house cleaning is in process at the Youngers. In the film, the setting is the same as play, with lighting and costumes. The plot in the play is when Mrs. Younger gets the insurance check of $10,000. In the film, the plot is the same, but includes music not mentioned in the play. The dialogue in the film has some deletions from the original text, with new dialogue added throughout the scene. Some film techniques used are: the film cuts back and forth to different characters, the room is well lit with the sunshine coming in through the window, and music is added throughout some parts of this scene. Perhaps the biggest difference between the play and the film in this scene involves dialogue. Much of the dialogue is deleted, however, new dialogue is added through some parts of this scene. Also, in the play, the mailman comes up to their apartment and rings the door bell unlike the film, Travis runs up to him outside the building and gets the mail from him right away and runs back to give it to Mrs. Younger (his grandma).…

The changes in the movie are deeply flamboyant. One of the biggest changes is the main event for the cause of the Salem Trials. In the movie, the audience sees the girls running to the woods very surreptitiously, practicing witchcraft, in the play it was mentioned through dialogue in Act 1. In addition to changes, in the play Reverend Hale states that he signed 72 death warrants, but in the movie he signed 17 death warrants. There was only one deletion that I saw that was very noticeable. In the play when John Proctor was accused, he snached his warrant out of his wife Elizabeth's hand, but in the play he never showed any anger towards Elizabeth. Further…

Differences between the two start from the very first scene. In the movie we see all of the girls and Tituba in the forest dancing and casting the spell, while in the book they only reference that it happened, but is never shown in the play. This scene is the most crucial part in setting up everything that is going to happen in the play. The fact that the play does not show this doesn’t let the readers actually visualize what happened like the movie does. Another difference in the scenes is that in the play the Doctor goes to visit Betty, but in the movie he goes to see Ruth and Reverend Parris says that Betty is the same…

The first difference is that there were some scenes added or adapted in the movie, as opposed to the play. First, the large group of "stricken" girls, which indeed had a greater number than did the group in the play, left the church meeting at the beginning of the movie to see about Betty's condition. Betty seemed to be much more violent in the movie and she tried to jump out of the window, which did not occur in the play. These details were most likely added to augment the idea of "mass hysteria." A scene was added in the movie, showing the hangings and cheers of the crowd watching, also to add to that effect.…

In both the play and movie versions, there are multiple similarities. The movie did a great job describing the overall message of the stage play. One similarity is the characters pursuit of their individual dreams. In the story no character was able to achieve their independent dreams. In the end, they realize the dream of a family is the most important because it unites them all. For example, Walter is shown as desperate to get a better life for him and his family. He struggles with having to work for others who make a lot of…

In class these past couple days we have been watching a movie called A "Christmas Carol." It is an exhilarating movie also and old one at that. There are many main characters, but the main one I am focused on is the elder man named Ebenezer Scrooge. He is the elder man in the movie that is traveling back into his past to see why it is he hates Christmas. This man has three ghosts of Christmas take him back to realize he has been putting blame where it is not needed. In the beginning he still continues to be himself and hate the day most people cherish and love, yet he chooses to demote the idea of Christmas.…

One major difference was that in the movie, the girls were shown dancing in the forest at the beginning. In the play it is only a flashback. The scene was added in the movie to make it more dramatic and foreshadowing. I think it helps to understand the movie better and it sets the mood of the story from the very beginning.…

The novella and the movie were very similar and majority of the movie favored the book. For instance in the text were Lennie and Crooks were having a conversation in Crook's barn, the movie captured the image that was in peoples minds. It captured the image because it showed Lennies emotions and how he was feeling when Crook's was asking him what he would do if George never came back, you could see the anger and rage in his face.…
