A Funeral For Emily Grierson

The story “A ROSE FOR EMILY” begins at the funeral for Miss Emily Grierson, when some of the people mostly the women are curious to see the inside of the house. It made known that only her and her servant lives in the house. The story also talks about how the house was once the best house around but it’s now old due to lack of maintenance. It also talked about the special relationship Miss Emily and the town colonel (colonel sartoris) who decided to stop billing her for taxes in 1894. The story also made the reader know that the “newer generation” was not happy with the arrangement the colonel made in which made them pay Miss Emily a visit after writing several letters to her. They told her to pay her debt but she refuse strongly asking them to go see the colonel.
ON THE OTHER HAND “THE HANDSOMEST DROWN MAN” talks about a group of children playing on the beach in a small village when they saw something floating on the river, they thought it was an enemy ship but the bulge keeps approaching and it turns out to be a drowned man, covered in seaweed, stones, and dead sea creatures. The kids played with him burying him in the sand and digging him up again before the men of the village took the body to the nearest village to see if he belongs to one of them, he smelled of seaweed, is skin was covered in mud. Later they took him to the women of the village who clean off the body and prepare it for a funeral. But while cleaning him the women noticed how huge and different he looks compared to their men in sense of height, strength and he was the best man they have ever seen and they named him
