A cloudy, cold, and wet March day was one to remember for me. It was game day. There is no better feeling than waking up the morning of a game. I always felt like waking up for school on game days was always so much easier than non-game days. My high school baseball season was in full swing; I attended St. Dominic High School and we were ranked number one on Long Island during the preseason and had a lot of hype to live up to. But it was all hype. We were not playing to our full potential and we were in game three of a crucial series against Holy Trinity; we won game one and lost game two. This third game was do-or-die for our playoff run. Our offense was ice cold and I was competing for a starting spot- I was hitting well and knew my chance would eventually come. I pulled up to school, looked at my phone early that morning, and saw a text from my coach that read “You’re starting today,” then proceeded to explain to me the importance of this game, and …show more content…
We won the game one to nothing, and to help contribute to the team’s victory is a great feeling. After the game my coach said to me “Reda, Newsday wants to interview you.” I couldn’t believe it- I froze after he said this. I eventually walked over with a tremendous smile on my face and answered the journalist’s questions about what I was trying to do and how this helps the team.
This win helped give us a bye to the first round of the playoffs and I was glad to help the team win. You can be 30% better or worse from pressure situations, but when you are prepared it gives you the strength to work past pressure. It is the days like this you appreciate the early hour workouts and wanting to give up but push through the adversity. Baseball can be rewarding and humbling.
