A Hero's Journey Into The Wild
“Ouch.” I said as I rose from the sand, rubbing my head. I looked up and saw the helicopter, perfectly landed, which was weird because the last thing I remember was the tail spiraling us out of control and me renting it of course. I looked around and saw nothing but sand, water, and trees, lots and lots of trees. I slowly stood up and brushed the sand off my pants and shirt. I saw that the shoes I had been wearing were no longer on my feet, which was a bummer because I had just gotten them. I walked around the island for around 2 hours then decided to find shelter around a viable water source that way I wouldn't die from dehydration. I glanced and saw a river leading away from the helicopter so I decided to follow it downstream to see if …show more content…

I mean it has been a while but I am pretty sure I can still track some animals.” said Governor Walker “Ok, Jake, the Governor and I will go out and track down the boar that almost killed James, everyone else stay put and make sure to not get yourselves killed.”
As the three of us walked treked our way through the woods, observing the tracks the boar had left after retreating into the woods after his failed ambush on James. “Shhhh.” Jake said as we slowly approached the edge of a ravine. I looked down and saw nothing, there was only the pale glistening of the moon on the ocean as we climbed down the vines and continued to track the boar, who we guessed had taken an alternate route down the ravine. As we reached the bottom, we noticed the boar`s tracks had just vanished, as if it had disappeared off the face of the earth.
Although, we soon realized this was not the case whatsoever. We walked around thirty yards and heard the snorting of the boar. “Guys, the boar is over there,” I said as I pointed towards a cave in the side of the ravine. “Ok guys listen up, the plan here is to have someone bait the boar out, and the other two of us ambush it from behind.” Said the Governor very confidently, as if he had done this multiple times

When he got a little closer, he saw a very large animal who was covering an abnormally large amount of ground in a short amount of time. He describes the animal as to cover about fifteen to twenty feet in just two strides, while not running. The creature made absolutely no noticeable noise. He mentions what he saw was the creature standing seven to seven and a half feet tall and an estimated five hundred pounds in weight. He describes the creature as being muscular and covered with dark fur, with long arms and hunched over posture. The deer hunter states that the creature moved quickly down the hillside and was gone in just a few seconds. Like both of the above incidents, it happened in a wooded area which provides plenty of coverage for the…

The first hour and a half we listened to the birds and watched the squirrels eat away at the trail mix. The sight of this made me hungry so I got out my peanut butter sandwich and red Gatorade. Around 4:45, I was lightly sleeping when I heard a loud snap from a few hundred yards away. My mind began racing as I tried to figure out what could have made that noise. Every couple minutes I could hear another branch break and it was getting closer and closer. An hour later the noise had moved from a few hundred yards in front of us to less than 30 yards behind us. “Don’t move” my dad whispered. We could hear leaves crunching under the feet of whatever was behind us. The noise continued onto the path that leads right to the bait pile. I slowly turned my head to the left and saw a 325-pound bear with a furry, black coat. Instantly my breathing became heavy, my whole body was shaking and my heart was about to pound out of my chest. I grabbed by gun and raised it to my shoulder, almost dropping it from all my shaking. I rested my Remington pump shotgun on the chilly aluminum edge of the Rivers Edge tree stand. “Click” I took the safety off of my shotgun and looked down the iron sights. The bear was licking the frosting on top of the white cedar log. BANG! The bear spun and took off into the thick green underbrush and fell after 20 yards. I couldn’t believe it; I was so excited. My dad and I waited 30 minutes and then we got down from the tree stand and followed the trail to where the bear was laying. I reached down and touched the smooth, plush coat of the bear, thanking it for the meat it would provide for my…

“The very basic core of a man’s living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences.” ( McCandless). Christopher McCandless a young man wanting to experience life to the fullest in the Alaskan wilderness without a plan. I support Cellarman's argument about McCandless is ignorant due to his lack of planning for his trip into the wilderness, but I disagree with him because I think McCandless courage nor his ideas are very inspirational.…

I could hear the blood pumping in my ears, away from the situation, and I started calming my breathing. I headed back to camp, content with trying to forget what I heard. The heavy footsteps of a creature larger than simple game. Almost as though just hiding from me, either to prepare to pounce, or to hide. What bothered me most however, was not that it was seemingly a creature who just wanted to hide, but that it hid. It sounded like a large creature, but a deer would have run, and a wolf would attack, followed by others. What was that? As I reached the campsite, the flames of my fire were softly dancing as though doing a waltz. I checked all of camp, but all the food and supplies I had gathered were gone. I headed back into the woods to the spot where I heard the rustle of leaves. The forest was still unsettlingly still, so I made the point to make my presence be known. I searched for any signs of where my belongings could have ended up. I stumbled upon a skinned deer. With that I knew I was not alone. I searched further, and found the hide on the ground near the river. I lifted it, wondering why any creature would skin a deer just to leave the hide behind not too far…
