A Huge Changes In American Society During The 1800's

During the 1800s, there was a huge change in the American economy, where America went from total grass and plains to innovative technology. This was the Industrial Revolution, when Americans went to factories and decided to improve technology, forgetting rural and farm life. This event in history shaped our society into the country we are now. Unfortunately, people who still lived in rural environments and owned farms faced many hardships regarding the booming economy. These farmers faced extreme hardships, leaving barely any farmers in our society today. One problem was finances, where many farmers went into debt. In addition, they also got fleeced because many people overpriced items, leaving them with more debt. According to the article “Life on the Farm,” it
Farmers were often charged higher rates to ship their goods a short distance than a manufacturer would pay to transport wares a great distance.” This piece of evidence delineates how, due to the extra land and demand for farm crops, they had to buy futuristic equipment to keep up with the demand, which left them in debt. Buying this equipment was hard, as many people exploited farmers. Another complication was not having access to items, like the Eastern population.
