One’s final moments often leave many questions. “What will my final thoughts be?” or “What would my final statement to the world be?” Reflections on death are often avoided because death can be terrifying but, if forced to think about it, what would you do in the final moments of your life? The author of An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge, Ambrose Bierce, wants the reader to focus on his or her final moments and how they might unfold. I did not remember how the conversation between teachers and parents stopped. The scene I still remember now is that we got out of the office silently, and every student walked with parents away in different directions. I did not know what would happen to them, but this was what happened to me. My parents and I got into the car and had remained silence for about five minutes. The time passed slowly, like as the time and air around me were freezing. Finally, the silence was broken at a waiting for a red…

Six years have gone by, as so many winks, since I came to the capital from the village. During all that time there have occurred many of those events known as “affairs of the state”, a great number of which I have seen or heard about. My heart does not seem to have been in the least affected by any of them, and recollection now only tends to increase my ill temper and cause me to like people less as the day wears on. But one little incident alone is deep with meaning to me, and I am unable to forget it even now.…
