Every story has a message or a theme to capture an audience’s attention and make them want to read more of the story so they can connect.In the novel The Contender by Robert Lipsyte, the author uses setting, conflict and plot.
The first part of the theme is setting. Setting helps develops the place of how poor Alfred's neighborhood is. The Contender is a book about a boy trying to become a boxer but has many troubles with friends and family telling him he shouldn't and couldn't become a boxer.
