To fully understand James chapter four, it is important to understand who the author James was. According to Kenneth Mackenzie, D.D. “James must have been of authority in the infant Church. He is the presiding officer at the momentous council in Jerusalem (Acts 15)… [Paul] admits the evident leadership of James in Gal. 2:12.” (Mackenzie, 1939.…
Chapter Two Sam caught the keys and nodded. He put the witch’s body in the trunk, and he walked around to the other side of the car and got in the driver’s seat. Dean opened the door and put Cas’s hand on the seat so he knew where they were. Cas allowed Dean to lower him into the car before scooting over to sit behind Sam.…
Chapter 1 of We Make the Road by Walking provides an excellent introduction to the conversational collaboration (and negotiation) between Myles Horton and Paulo Freire. In this chapter, Freire explains that the purpose of a spoken book is “to have a good conversation but in the sort of style that makes it easier to read the words” (Horton & Freire, 1990, p. 4). What an interesting way to bring more than a century of collective experience to bear under one roof! Having used this method in the past – and in light of his wife’s recent passing – Freire found it essential to attempt to pursue such an endeavor with Horton while there was still time to do so.…
Children of the River The book Children of the River is about the difficulties and differences of immigrating to a foreign country and having to get used to a different way of living. As seen in this book, Sundara is having to accustom herself to living a different and usual way from what she lived before in her native country. In different parts of the world there are places where they are less advanced than what we are here in America.…
In his lecture “This is water” David Forest (2005) by an example with fishes illustrates the real goal of liberal arts education. He claims that the most important part of it is not to obtain knowledge but to understand a way to think. He recommends being more attentive about what is concealed around us as in the given example water for young fishes. He explained that mostly people unconsciously believe in something without even hesitating or considering the fact that they might be wrong. As he explained the moment people worship something they will never be satisfied. Moreover he also states that people unintentionally see themselves as a “center of the universe”. As he explained, people likely make their feelings and demands their main priorities.…
One of the most well-known figures from the Second World War was a known anti-Semitic, U.S. Army General George S. Patton. Several sources expose facts about this historical figure including The Long Road Home. Shephard describes the xenophobic leader,…
There was a moment of silence in the shambles, and all the orcs were dead or had fled. Boromir looked around the fellowship: the four hobbits seemed ruffled but fortunately unharmed, while Gandalf and that ranger were in a state so disheveled that it was difficult not to laugh. The pain at the back of his head made him grimace. Well, I must look just as bad, he thought and then turned to the elves standing silently at the rear.…

Chapter 10, The Fate of Water, was my favorite chapter. In this chapter, Fishman overviews and presents his arguments that water crisis is not a global crisis, in fact, it is a local crisis. I like his argument that if there is a water problem in one place, people from another place cannot solve it because transporting the water system is impossible. Since all the water problems are solvable, people of a particular place, where they are having water issues, should try to confront the problem, tackle and then figure the ways to solve it. Conserving or limiting the water use at one place may not help solve water crisis at another place. However, I liked the way Fishman encourages people to learn and be conscious about the water problem seeing…
