Non-religious people will find this novel hard to read or understand. The Duggars have devoted their lives to the Lord. I believe that everyone has the right to believe in and worship as they please; however on every page the Duggars had something to about this particular belief. On every page they mentioned praying, the Bible, or even the Lord Himself. This lifestyle leads the Duggars to “let God decide the size” of the family. In the novel they also mention the rules of courtship for their children. I believe that every family should have rules when it comes to their children starting their first relationships; on the other hand, I feel the Duggars may be taking it a bit too far. For example, the children are expected to follow the six steps of dating: waiting, evaluating, considering, pre-engagement, engagement, marriage, and then dating. During the waiting stage you are expected to become the person God wants you to be before He brings you to your intended spouse. Next is the evaluating stage. In this stage girls are expected to make a list of what character qualities they want in a spouse and evaluate their person of interest based on their list. I agree with stage because I think it is important to have high standards when it comes to a future spouse. The third step is considering, asking yourself “Is this person a potential spouse?”.
