Lucia Hartini’s paintings are largely influenced by her own personal struggle and beliefs. She is an Indonesian artist whose work addresses her status as a woman and a Catholic in a predominantly Muslim community. She was a victim of domestic violence and many of her works symbolizes the suffering she has endured.
What I adore about Lucia Hartini and her works are the honesty and the transparency of her journey through her suffering and how it had molded her into a stronger person today. The progression of her artwork shows her growth and her increased conviction to define her own place in the world.
