From there, I begin to introduce myself or try, few of the students looked up or even cared that I was there. They took one look at me and decided that whatever I had to say had nothing to do with them and nearly all of them began ignoring me. Despite being ignored, I continued giving my presentation, explaining that the HERO program is a positive reward system. And as I am speaking I heard one of the students say under his breath, “I’m not going to get any points anyway.” And a few others heard him and agreed that they wouldn’t either so it was pointless for them to listen to me and sign up. So, I asked, “Why not? Why wouldn’t you?” and they explained to me that they were bad kids and that's why they were in ISS. I without hesitation began to tell them that they weren’t bad kids, they just made a bad choice and that's two different things. And the administrator in the room sarcastically asked “If knew where I was” with a chuckle, implying that I didn’t realize that these kids were being reprimanded.
