Symbols of America
America has been through a lot of stressful events. Some events ended up killing many loved ones. Some destroyed part of our country, but it has also brought us all closer together. There are some articles that I have read that explain and show the sorrow and extreme pain of an America as a country. Three articles that I have read shows, in great detail the destruction that has happened. “A Quilt of a Country”, “The Gettysburg address,” and “The Vietnam Wall” all have similar things in common like death, memorial, and unity. They all symbolize each item within each article.

(Lincoln pg. 3)America had no unity because the civil war tore the country apart. In “A Quilt of a Country” this quote is saying that we don’t have unity. “Clinging to ethnicity, in background and custom, has undermined the concept of unity.”(Quindlin Pg. 5, lines 26-27) In “The Gettysburg Address” Lincoln’s speech shows the unity of everyone who fought in the Civil War. “Four score and seven years ago our fore fathers brought forth on this continent a new nation, conceived in liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal”.(Lincoln pg.27 lines 1-3) In “The Vietnam Wall” the unity that everyone shares in America is that everyone goes there for the memories of their passed loved ones. “Flowers are forced into the cracks between sections. Men have cried at this wall. I have seen them.”(Rios, page 35.
