The first difference between the book, A Raisin in the Sun, and the movie is that in the book they do not include important scenes that occur in the movie. Leaving these important scenes out of the book could restrict the reader from seeing what the Youngers go through in their daily lives. For example, in the movie, Mama goes to the store wishing to get some fresh apples. She begins to ask for some apples but then is interrupted by a white woman who is also asking for apples. For example, when they move out of the apartment, in the book, Mama leaves the house last which makes her seem more like the head of the household. On the other hand, in the movie, Walter is the last person to walk out which makes him seem more in charge. In the book, since Mama’s husband died she has taken control of the family, while in the movie Walter takes control. To sum up, it is better that in the movie Walter is the leader of his family rather than Mama because he is supposed to be the “man of the house,” following in his dad's
