Walter doesn’t think that she should become a doctor he feels that women are only useful to support men and work for them. Walter says “Who the hell told you you had to be a doctor? If you so crazy about messing around with sick people then go be a nurse like other women or just get married and be quiet.” (Pg. 38) Walter was being very rude and he is supporting Beneatha to follow her dreams and to get a job.
A Raisin in the Sun has a lot of different mixed feelings and emotions. When it comes to sexism that is one of the main themes throughout the whole play. When Walter Lee says those comments it is a perfect example of how their is a lot of sexism in the play. Walter Lee just doesn’t wanna do things on his own so he tries to get the women to help him and tries to convince them not to get a job and leave him. It is mainly the women that get treated differently not the men because the men are the ones treating the women
