represents America and Chris represents Christianity, and since Changez is Muslim he believes that she won't accept him because of her dedication to Christianity. The stereo about Muslims is conveyed throughout the book especially after the 9/11 attack with Changez saying “At the airport, I was escorted by armed guards into a room where I was made to strip down to my boxer shorts” (74). Being Muslim in a majority Christian country had its consequences, and is why Changez will never understand the relationship with America and Christianity, just like how he will never understand the truth to Chris and Erica’s relationship. This is significant because it gives a first-hand look of being an outsider in a country. Even though I am Jewish, and it’s not the majority in the country, it’s not discriminated against and there’s a large Jewish community. But being a religion that has hatred towards it makes it hard to fit into a country. Even though Changez went to the best college and has a phenomenal job he stills feels discriminated against. Coming from Pakistan he will never understand what Christianity really is in America because he can’t relate to it. There are many people who are immigrants who will never understand and feel part of America because of their religion.
