A Rhetorical Analysis Of Nixon's Speech

Nixon approached the country wearing a suit coat and tie. Sitting behind a desk, with hands clasped in front of him he began his speech. Known throughout the country as the man who took eighteen thousand dollars for personal gain he seemed nervous at first. Who would not be nervous standing up to entire country? As the speech progresses he becomes more confident. Looking less and less at his notes, unless it it to cite or bring up a fact, he gains confidence that carries him throughout the rest of the speech. Even though he is being filmed- it can be awkward just talking to a camera- Nixon is sure to make eye-contact with the camera. He talks as if he is talking to you as a person, and that can be felt. During his entire speech he seems to become more human and just some untouchable figure head. With trials and tribulations that he has faced and is facing during his speech you start to feel empathy for him. The speech progresses and Senator starts to relate more to the common people. Not only that, he was paying them money still for the time they loaned him money, instead of telling them that they were equal because they were living in his home.
