One of the main conflicts is between Miss Emily and Homer Barron. Miss Emily murdered Homer for many different reasons. Homer was a rat, in fact it was hinted to us in the story when Miss Emily bought the poison and under it said “For Rats”(3). Usually when you describe someone as a rat means that you dislike that person. It also means that Homer has cheated or betrayed Miss Emily. Secondly Homer Barron did not want to marry Miss Emily. For instance in the story it said “he drank with younger men in the Elks’ Club-that he was not a marrying man”(3). Homer never wanted to get married because he forever wanted to stay young and meet new women. For Emily it felt like she was being rejected, which probably made her very angry, which probably lead to the murder of Homer.
