The townspeople are the people in William Faulkner short story "A Rose for Emily". The short story is a timeline in which a criminal activity has taken place over the span of many years. Emily had gone to the store and decided to buy arsenic. Just after that Homer had entered Emily's house but never came back out. At the timeline, other encounters like the smell, the taxes, the cover of the lime, and opening the door to show Homer's corpse at the funeral of Emily. All the encounters taking place where the townspeople would have been involved in some way.
