Even though Gene and Finny try to find peace by making the winter carnival, they figure out that their desire to join the war is desperate. One requirement to be enlisted is that you have to be registered. Even though they are in a period of peace which is the winter carnival, they want to feel brave by enlisting for the war. The book “The Iliad” was one of the prizes. One example is Leper, he was s a quiet person but after enlisting, he turned crazy. But this book can not only help them survive the war but help them find peace. There was a carnival game that tried to make people worthy for the army by making them fit, and the prize was a dumbbell. It is a fact that the military does not want weak teens that are not fit. The seniors are already working hard to get fit for war. So Gene and Finny think that as well since they are desperate to join the war.
