A Short Story: Evidence Of Things Unseen
Alex distracted threaded her fingers through blonde hair as she read her emails and fine-tuned a few details for drops scheduled for the last weeks of the year. She noticed as Piper lowered her book “Evidence of Things Unseen” by Wiggins, and checked the time for the thousand time. It made Alex quietly chuckled, infinitely amused by Piper, who couldn’t be more obvious about her birthday “surprise” if she had walked around with a sign around her neck.
• Hey – Alex asked, stopping Piper from standing with glee dancing in her eyes – Where are you going?
• I was thinking of – Piper replied, quickly trying to come up with an excuse – going to Balthazar’s and pick up some croissants….
• Now? – Alex questioned, tilting her head with fake bewilderment

Even if she wasn’t surprised Alex felt thrilled about being able to spend her birthday & Christmas with the only two people in the world who matter to her. Piper & her mom. And neither had been in Cancun and the Rivera Maya.. It should be fantastic. Alex heard the muffled their muffled voices & the sound of the keys, making her smile as she sat in the sofa & faked obliviousness.
• Hey, Al– Diane greeted, smirking and walking over
• Mom – Alex exclaimed, smiling and hugging her tied.
• You knew you little shit – Diane whispered in her ear.
• Don’t tell Pipes. – Alex muttered, chuckling softly – This a surprise!! What are you doing here?
• Piper talk into it – Diane declared, her eyes twinkling mischievously – She has a surprised for you.
• We – Piper revealed, beaming – a vacation booked to celebrate your birthday & Christmas in the Rivera Maya.
• Great – Alex expressed, pulling in and kissing her playful- I love it. Thanks, Pipes.
