A Short Summary On Baseball
Baseball
By: Jeremy Dodson

Imagine you saw a professional hitting a home run. Then you wonder how the ball got that far. You ask yourself “should I go ask the coach how the player hit the home run?”
Do you know who Dave Winfield is? Do you want to know more about baseball for young and old?

What a Baseball Made of?
[pic]
A baseball is made up of 4 main layers. At the center of the ball is a rubber core. Around the core is a layer of cork. Then twine is wrapped around the core. Over the twine is stitched a layer of leather that makes up the cover of the ball. They stitch the ball because that way the twine part of the ball does not come out like stuffing from a pillow. The ball is made the same for both of the leagues except for the tee-ball league. The middle of the tee-ball is made up of this soft component so it will not hurt as much when you get hit by it because you are just beginning of your baseball career if you want that to be your career.

This is so because without it you will not have a sturdy baseball. I know this because on one of my baseballs I took out the core and remade the baseball. When I was finished I threw the ball to my friend and it fell in mid flight to where my friend could not catch it. I never did that again because it was a waste of the materials because we could not find a way to use

Though short and straightforward, Hurtt attempts the 5-7-5 form to illustrate that a shortstop from the Cubs has been injured, but his name has 8 syllables instead of 7. This is presented in a humorous manner. There are many possibilities here as the shortstop could have been injured during practice or a game, Regardless, Hurtt illustrates that it’s part of the game and can be shown through sports haiku.…

Mentioned before, the four-seam fastball may actually appear to rise, but it really just goes in a laser-like straight line because of the near perfect backspin. Whereas, the curve ball curves downward and sometimes to the right for a right-handed pitcher, or left for a left-handed pitcher. Depending on how much back spin for a fastball, or top spin for a curve ball, is sacrificed into the baseball, that will increase or decrease how much break will be on the pitch. Another reason why baseball is one of the toughest sports to succeed in is: “The hardest thing to do in baseball is to hit a round ball with a round bat, squarely.” -Ted…

According to the article “The Real Story of Baseball’s Integration that you won’t see in 42,” by Peter Preier, Martin Luther King said that Jackie made his job easier for him since Jackie was a catalyst for Martin Luther King. He set the stage not just for future black athletes but for other political activists. Jackie and his wife showed a lot of civil disobedience which Martin Luther King believed in. Furthermore, Jackie is only one man and he cant do all the changes and that it requires a lot of effort from groups of people to make a change. However, he did break the color barrier to have more black players and coaches on teams and that raw talent and hard work should be acknowledged instead of color. Unfortunately today, baseball isn’t…

The year was 1919. The Chicago White Sox were on a winning streak. All White Sox fans were confident in their team’s talent and capability to beat their World Series competition, the Cincinnati Reds. Their performance was disappointing to their fans, coaches, and even a few oblivious White Sox players. Although many were surprised, gamblers and multiple White Sox team members were not. The players, who were nicknamed the Black Sox, had everything figured out. In 1919, a team known as the Black Sox changed the way baseball is supposed to be played, leading to an inauthentic win.…

There are many forces that take place in baseball. The pitcher applies forces to a ball, in order to strike out the batter. The pitcher determines the speed and velocity of the ball. The pitcher can make the ball do different and unique things. For instance a curve ball is one example; the pitcher can apply a type of force to the ball so that it descends just as soon as it gets close to the batter, which messes with the batters mind thinking he will hit it. The pitcher arm acts as if it was lever giving them a certain amount of mechanical advantage which increases his force. When the ball is spinning a curve ball is created. The ball creates less pressure when the faster flowing air is under the ball. This forces the ball to dive or break. Drag forces actually makes baseball. There wouldn’t be any curves, sliders, or knuckle ball without drag forces. The most important breaking ball and most starting pitchers in MLB is a curve ball. As the pitchers throw the ball, they snap their wrist with a turning motion. The ball gathers up air by its stitching. This causes the ball rotation which creates higher air pressure on a side…

    Essay On Baseball To Me

    • 398 Words

A year ago today, I wrote an essay about what the game of a baseball had taught me and the opportunities the game brought to my life. It was written from the point of view of a kid who was going to college as a student-athlete, with aspirations of playing the game professionally. Today however, I am writing this essay with a different dream in mind, and rather reflecting upon the past, I find myself looking towards the future. I dream that I get to go to a school that I love and graduate with a truly valuable degree. I dream of raising money so that I can start and run my own business. I dream of creating, innovating and learning every day of my life, so that I can have a real impact, but why do I want to transfer? In short, I got surgery on my shoulder, which is prohibiting me from participating in this years baseball season. This initially had me feeling miserable, however it slowly turned itself into one of the best things that has ever happened to me. I started to get involved with my school by attending various lectures, joining Enactus and becoming a potential new member in a fraternity. Moreover, I began feeding my autodidact personality, which led me to buy a book on the essentials of French, as well as how to write a screenplay; the screenplay is still in the developing stages. Had I not gotten…
