A Significant Moment
Ana Montes
ENGL 0190
WP #1
Mrs. Ziegel Last year around fall time, when the air was getting cooler, and leaves were different colors was when a significant moment occurred for me. My best friend Brittna and I were at a park near a river, shooting her senior pictures. I was the photographer and she was the client. The itinerary was to complete the photoshoot and eat! It was the perfect time to take photos, because the temperature was at a stage where people could wear a thin sweater if they wanted to. The sky was a light blue color with many cumulus clouds. Leaves were all over the park, many colors and shades of red, orange, yellow and green. Trees and plants in different stages of life. Brittna and I were almost done with the photoshoot when we decided we could get awesome photographs by the river and huge gray rocks. Right above the river was a bridge, which is usually very busy. There was wonderful and unappealing graffiti all over the place. We noticed there were two tents under the bridge. One seemed to be used for food, the other for sleeping, because I could tell it was filled with blankets and a backpack. I could not tell if there were people inside, but I was not about to find out.
“I feel so bad for whoever lives here, I hope they are okay” Brittna said. Brittna is the type of friend who cares more about others than herself. She will

We decided to sit on the rocks and enjoy the day, we looked around us, the weather was perfect, we had everything we needed so far. At the moment, we were thankful for a lot of things. Not to make an example of someone else, but we were appreciative that we are not in the situations of others who are less fortunate. At moments it may seem that we do not have much, but we totally do. And, if people still think they do not have much, they can always make themselves better, and achieve things they did not think were

From a distance the tall structures blur together to form hard geometric lines and shapes. While the subject views the park from directly above, towards the outer edges, the buildings angle slightly to their respective boundaries. The structures almost seem to form a wave as they appear to increase in height as you look from left to right creating a sense of movement the photo. The bursting height of the taller structures allows them to cast shadows that aren’t as prevalent in the rest of the image. The urban landscape blends together in various shades of blue, red, and grey. The left and right edges are slightly bluer in tint while the upper and lower portions appear to have a rusty colour. There are hints of foliage towards the upper and lower left-hand side of the image, but unlike the park, are dwarfed by the expanse of the buildings that surround it. The omniscient view of the cityscape allows a unique perspective of this famous…

In photography, it is apparent that nature can not only set the ambiance the whole piece, but also reflect on subtleties of the human condition. Although nature may encompass a large portion of the work, it is often the case it may be utilized to highlight implications in the less emphatic aspects of the photograph. For Edward Curtis, the environment serves to highlight its vital role in a particular culture’s identity. The implementation of the natural landscape serves to both establish a tone of serene contemplation and explore the vital role of the environment within the Native American cultural realm. In The Idle Hour, Edward Curtis presents a stationary approach to his photogravure by presenting the aesthetic similarities between the figures…

Thanksgiving day has arrived upon us. Family members are puring in for an extravagant feast, extensive conversations, and gratitude of life. In the midst of conversations blaring in the dining room, one family member reamrks, "I don't have anything to be thankful for this year." Suddenly the room fell silent. I felt the need to speak out and persuade this family member of the different things we have to be thankful for. Thanksgiving is a time for families to come together and give thanks for their health, children, and the joy of life.…

On the Origin of Species chapter IV outlines Darwin’s proposal on how a new species is generated via natural selection over a long period of time. In Darwin’s theory of speciation, he proposes that all organisms within a species must express some degree of variation, which allow for organisms with the most advantageous variations to produce the most offspring (Darwin 10) This also means that the variations must be heritable from one generation to the next. In chapter IV Darwin uses the examples variants causing a wolf to be slimmer so it can run faster to escape predators and hunt down prey, and a bear may have a variant that allows it to prey on more abundant sources of food (Quote: “Let us take the case of a wolf, which preys on various…
