A Speech On Kellie Birkett's Degree In Criminal Justice
Good Morning! I am Kellie Birkett the wife to an amazing husband, mother to 6 children, full-time student and full-time manager at my place of employment. Our children range from 19-6, with our oldest being a freshman at ICC this year and youngest just starting 1st grade. I am on my last year of my associates of applied science. My major is criminal justice. I am very busy but have done very well juggling all of these things through to past 2 years but I am ready for graduation. I graduated from Metamora High School in 1999 and decided to go back and pursue a degree in criminal justice after I had become a stay at home mom a few years after our last child was born. I am taking this class because it was highly recommended by a few people and

During slavery and the Jim Crow error, the justice system was beyond biased. I don’t believe that the justice system is racist today. If you're willing to do the crime than you're willing to do the time. Heather Mac Donald states,” a 1987 analysis of Georgia felony convictions, for example, found that blacks frequently received more lenient punishment.” Here it says that blacks get a longer sentence for the committed crime as too other races. In the last paragraph Heather Mac Donald says,” the evidence is clear: black prison rates result from crime, not racism.” The justice system looks at their offenses as well as criminal records. The longer your record, the longer your sentence.…

I have created a book containing laws and elements to certain crimes. Also, I have obtained experience interviewing a variety of people, including young children and special needs individuals. To conclude, I have observed and sat in a court hearing to get the opportunity to observe what the court system is all about. None of these opportunities would be possible without my Public Safety instructor and mentor Donald Hammond. Mr.Hammond has influenced me in a positive way. Mr.Hammond has 30 plus years of experience in the public safety, law career. He has taught me law theories, informed me of criminal and civil law cases, and has taught me how to perform correctly in the professional field. Lastly, he informed me of the career based strategies to succeed in my career. I owe Mr.Hammond my success. That is why I thank…

One person comes to mind when I think of a person who has come from a typically described as “good” family background. As a child of three my mother made sure my two brothers and I had everything we needed. My mom always taught my brothers and me that you cannot truly appreciate something unless you have worked for it. My family consist of educated, hard-working, honest people. My place of residence was in satisfactory condition. I barley seen any gangs, fights, or robberies. Growing up I couldn’t even imagine a place full of crime and mischief; and I thought the same for my brother.…
