John Hoyle the author of "A State Championship" is like the good Samaritan in the Bible parable because they both help someone that is not necessary for them to do because they both give something up. In the story "A State Championship" in paragraph 8 it tells us that he gives up his chance to win the first state championship for the school but he gives it up to help another runner that was hurt. In the Bible parable the good Samaritan the man could have kept walking through the mountains but takes a chance of getting robbed by helping someone else that was hurt from a robbery. The man in the Bible parable and John Hoyle are like the man in the water because they all gave something up to help others. All three of the people from the passages…
I chose to go out on a limb and do a comedy and a movie in which I own, to make it easier for me. Now I am not a NASCAR fan nor do I think it is a sport, but in their defense it is very mental and goes hand in hand with sports psychology and what we’re are talking about with mental focus. Pretty much everything that the book has talked about in the first 6 chapters, NASCAR has to deal with a lot of it.…
In the essay “The Shame of College Sports” Taylor Branch explains a large amount of corruption inside college sports and makes a case that colleges do not properly represent their student athletes and they should be paid.(Branch 227) One of the statements from UNC trustee Dan Curtis states “I think we should pay these guys something” sets up Branch to one of his first major statements in which he says “Fans and educators alike recoil from this proposal as though from original sin. Amateurism is the whole point, they say. Paid athletes would destroy the integrity and appeal of college sports.” (227) In this move he confronts what the vast majority of people believe and later goes on to further his view of the topic with an analogy of college…
The Good Samaritan sports award. Given to one athlete that dominates during play, and gives back on the street. It is sometimes considered the greatest honor in sports. I believe that Stephen Curry should win the Good Samaritan sports award, not Zach Randolph. Stephen Curry is coming off multiple record-breaking seasons with the Golden State Warriors, and he teamed up with Nothing but Nets to help fight malaria in a Tanzania, a country in eastern Africa.…
The Shack, written by William P. Young, tackles one man’s quest for faith and reassurance in God through several metaphors, parables and symbols. These symbols are used to compare the story religion itself; and from this comparison it is easier to grasp a deeper understanding. However, with this underlying symbolism, it’s possible to over analyze and disregard the fictitious nature of the book. Despite this, there are many symbols within The Shack that are essential to the story and the deeper significance within it.…

On April 15th, 2013 in Boston, Massachusetts, there was a bombing attack that killed two innocent women, a young child and wounded over two hundred. Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and his older brother were accused to be the bombers and after the older brother was killed, along with a Boston Police Officer, Tsarnaev’s face was on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine. When the issue was released, the picture caused a huge controversy on whether or not it should be the cover photo. Some stores refused to sell that issue of the magazine and people also refused to buy it. But then some people thought that the cover was fine and showed things people wouldn’t think about.…

When at the age of five, my parents began to experiment with and place me in many different activities. The first activity was gymnastics, which was a complete failure. The gym instructor would lift my body to the high bars so I can get a feel for it and in that moment I knew it wasn’t for me. The second activity my parents decided I should try next was track and field. Track was fun at first, I actually like to run and I was pretty fast, I believed. When I joined the track team the season was going to begin soon only giving me three weeks to prepare myself for my first track meet. I trained for a while thinking I was decent ready for what life has to throw at me, then the day of the track meet arrived.…
I can say it has been over a year since I did my last amateur cross country race, between moving, family/work responsibilities and a self admitted laziness in actually getting my ass to a race early Sunday mornings when I could be sleeping in, I do, in fact miss this part of my cycling experience, therefore I am hoping to join in on the weekend racing festivities next spring when the local mountain bike series starts up again. Even though I have not done much racing lately, I have been doing plenty of riding and having a blast exploring all the sweet trails in my small part of the world. While writing this article on racing I was reminded of all the excitement, nervousness and unplanned chaos that comes hand in hand with weekend racing and…
When I decided to join cross country team my freshman year, I never envisioned myself being a part of what would become known as “the best team in Hammonton history.” Three years ago, I finished the season as one of the very worst on the team, with no expectations being placed on me for the future. Fast forward to one month ago, when I along with my fellow six varsity teammates lead Hammonton to its first Atlantic County Championship in school history. While much of my improvement can be attributed to my physical growth over the years, I would have never reached that level of success if I did not realize how important it is to maximize my effort in everything that I do. My success in Cross Country was not as much caused by my physical development, but more so by the evolution of my mentality.…
When we were children, our mothers and fathers would take care of us, whatever we needed they found a way to get it. They were out support beams, our shoulders to cry on, and our correction officers when we were in the wrong. They were also the ones we ran to when we had our scars and bumps. We knew that they would give us the right things to make us feel better. When we get older we begin to make more risky decisions, and sometimes those become bad decisions, possibly ending in injury.…
It was a cold and dreery day in the plains of South Dakota, the wind whipping across the landscape. Today was no ordinary day for me though, for I was headed for my biggest game of my high school football career. I am a Lennox Oriole tried and true and am proud to strap up my pads with the Lennox name across my chest. This day, everything felt different for me. I felt as though the weather wasn’t going to ruin my day. The night before this day I couldn’t sleep, for I was too nervous as to what was going to come.…
purchase agreement dated 15 May 1996. The plaintiff was aware at that time of the presence of squatters on the land. Following the said purchase, the plaintiff commenced eviction proceedings against the squatters and succeeded in obtaining judgment where the court ordered that the squatters surrender vacant possession of the subject land to plaintiff. The plaintiff’s solicitors demanded that second defendant cease supply of electricity and remove all structures in connection with the supply by letter dated 28 April 2004. Plaintiff brings a suit due to second defendant’s refusal to comply with the demand. The defence counsel, however, argued that second defendant could not be held liable for trespass in view of its statutory obligation under the Electricity Supply Act 1990 (ESA), and the plaintiff had failed to distinguish between the lots owned by the plaintiff and the rest of the land.…
