A Thought on Ghosts As a teenager, my father told me of a story where he was young living in his old house. One day he had to acquire something that his parents had asked for. However, as he approached the room he felt as though he was being observed upon. In the distance, he saw two glowing red eyes speaking in a language my father barely understood. He then took what he needed and left the room as soon as possible. Many people have experienced encountering ghosts or any manifestations. The question is though: Are these stories about ghosts true? To start off was an article made by Nathan Heller. In his article, published especially on the day of Halloween, he expresses towards the readers of his experience on a ghost tour and whether ghosts are truly real in America, which he ultimately does not believe in. Heller then applies several points as well towards his article. Firstly, he states of how Americans assume themselves to be “straightforward people”, but as a nation, filled with negative connotations such as denial and euphemism. Secondly, Keller states of haunted as in American people being hurt and we create these “Hauntings”. Thirdly, he states of how people have made stories about ghosts since people do not want to face the past. Overall, in my view, I believe that ghosts are truly real and that some stories happened.
He reports of his tour experience by observing mansions and certain places in which are haunted. He then extrapolates on the topic of hauntings connected with human thinking and behavior. Heller states, “In other words, haunted is precisely what we are: physically, painfully. And we still create our hauntings in out language and in how we live” (2017).
