The story “A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings” written by Gabriel G. Marquez was a very confusing story at first. It was in till the second time I read it, I started to see a lot of symbolism and perhaps different themes in the story. May I add that the text in Spanish, in my opinion, felt a little different than the translation. I think Marquez could be saying several things about human nature. One of them being that we have expectations for things or people even when we have never experience them before. As human beings we sometimes have a mental picture or unrealistic expectation of how things should be and when that something or someone doesn’t meet them the way we expected we dismiss it.
