Man and Christ share a number of similarities; the people represented in this story parallel the actions shown in the time of Christ. Christ dealt multiples times with the blinds, the paralyzed, and the lepers. Through all of this, the Old Man is mistreated and tortured. “Cripples pulled out feathers to touch their defective parts with…” (Marquez 53). Even the “most merciful threw stones at him…” (Marquez 53) and branded the side of his body with a hot iron.
Pelayo and Elisenda’s neighbor even recognized him as an angel yet wanted the Old Man murdered. This neighbor wanted this Old Man clubbed to death.
