As children, humans want to watch, read or hear everything possible. As parents, people will not let their children do whatever they want to do. There are simply limits and rules that are placed upon children as they grow. There are everyday life lessons that can be learned from one 's own experiences and from one 's parents. Some parents do not take the time to teach these morals or life lessons, which could be crucial for when that child grows up to be an adult. Every child should be taught the phrase “you have to give respect to get it”, but not all are taught that, and most children that are not, become very rude people as adults. In today 's society, the story “A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings” is perceived to be more of an adult fable, but there are many morals in this story that not only adults should read, but children as well.
In this story, there is an “angel” that lands in Pelayo’s and Elisenda’s yard that was said to have fallen out of the sky. The neighbor determines that this is an angel because of the wings on the old man. As the story unravels, the couple then takes the old man in and places him into their chicken coop to sleep. One would think if an elderly man is lying in the front of one’s yard, that they would want to take him in and help him. Instead, the couple treats him like complete trash. There are many other things that the couple could have done, but sadly didn’t. They could have invited him into the house to stay until he got better, or even taken him to a doctor to get checked out.
