O’Brien maintains the mystery of the plot, the characters, and the ending through his unusual writing style that includes a lot of flashbacks and forwards with little dialog and excessive…

He shows the order of events, their consequences and the way the characters overcome the trails they are faced with. Davenport nevertheless believes that “A desire to experience authorial mismanagement at its worst is perhaps the only justification for reading Tim McLaurin’s The Acorn Plan.” (708). This is not the case; Davenport must not be accustomed to a sequenced order of events jumping from perspectives of different characters flowing in harmony with the plot. In the first page of the book McLaurin sets up the rest of the book so you know exactly how it will go. McLaurin writes; “Bubble Riley decided to drink all the wine in the world the night Billy cut the soldier’s lung in half” (1). Mismanagement not in the least, the book starts with Billy and the confrontation with cutting the man’s lung in half to subsequently being placed in jail. He gets out of jail after a couple of days, but is put on probation to make better decisions which in turn he does throughout the rest of the book. It shows the major events along with smaller ones that correspond with the plot. The other characters follow Billy’s’ story with their own stories flowing in harmony and even coinciding in certain…

Jeff Sypeck made this book interesting to read by ensuring that the book had a continuous flow. The flow of the book can be explained by how well the book transitions through key points and chapters. The flow is important to having an interesting writing style because poor transitions or gaps in explanation can confuse the reader can cause him to have to re-read, or lose interest in the book. It is similar to watching your favorite show and then having to stop for a commercial. This is something understood by most, and sometimes you may never even return to the programming you were previously viewing. That is why the flow of a book in very important in keeping the reader interested. Sypeck demonstrated this flow in his book. The parts that stuck out most in his book were transition between key points and transitions between chapters. Jeff Sypeck was excellent at picking the next chapter up where the last chapter would stop and also in the way he chronicled events between past and present using clear words so that the reader would knew exactly to whom and/or what he was referring. A good example of the flow of the book is found at the end of page 158 through page 159. Over three chapters and two direct quotes Sypeck covers three separate issues. Sypeck…
The number of dead in Vietnam was 58,000 and wounded is estimated to be around 300,000. Countless Vietnam veterans were psychologically scared, while other was embittered by poor treatment the public gave them when they came home. Regardless, whether the war was right or wrong, we should support our troops. After reading The Things They Carried and watching Forrest Gump, Full Metal Jacket, my perspective has changed considerably about the Vietnam War.…
Yes, it’s how the author drew you into the story, had you sitting on the edge of your seat, biting your nails, wondering what's gonna happen next, longing for more. This is all called suspense. The author uses this tactics to pull you into his world, causing you to urn for more, he introduces you to the characters, making you feel like you know them, like their your friends or enemies depending on the book, then he sucks you in even deeper with a few plot twists you didn’t see coming, has you sitting up screaming, “no way”! Suspense makes connections with the reader and the book then brings it to life. Suspense brings you into the book, grabs your attention and takes you for a wild emotionally tantalizing ride. Basically suspense gets you in its hands and doesn't let you go all the way through the entirety of the book until you close the last page, sit back, gasping, saying to yourself, “wow, didn’t see that coming” and then you wanna read it all over again. That’s suspense and worth every page you…

I’ve always looked for a meaning or purpose that could connect with my life, but how can a 17 year old boy decipher and discover such a thing on his own? A possibility can be found through ways of expressing passion to the public. Such as movies, songs, poems, or even a piece of art. And even though I have seen or found some type of message in all these, I’ve found a special one with a film by the name of The American Sniper. This is a film about a U.S Navy Seal Officer by the name of Chris Kyle that was during the fight on terrorism. The things I can take from this film that lets it connect so well with my life is a certain scene about a saying of a sheep dog, and the similarities I can see with the protagonist and my father. Ideas and…
If you’ve never seen the film ‘Forrest Gump,' you need to clear a couple hours and experience it! This film won six Oscars, sort of hard to say you would be wasting your time. Most people enjoy the memorable catch phrases and the flash from the past journey it takes through the twentieth century. However, a principal character “Jenny," whom Forrest falls deeply in love with upon first sight, may become your least favorite character. The movie ‘Forrest Gump’ can leave the audience with mixed emotions indeed!…
The different types of conflicts help shape the book because the conflicts help deepen the story and the characters in the book. In ‘The Outsiders’ the main conflict is person vs society. Since Ponyboy is a greaser he is looked down upon in society because he is poor. One example of a plot is person vs person, of Darry and Ponyboy. A lot of times Darry and Ponyboy don’t get along and get into a lot of arguments, by yelling and shouting. This would be an example of person vs person because one character is fighting another character. In this situation Ponyboy and Darry are verbally fighting each other. Furthermore, when Ponyboy arrived late coming home, Darry was really mad and slapped Ponyboy in the face. On page 50 it also proves my saying”…

Twentieth century short story author, Flannery O 'Connor, coined the phrase "grotesque" and mothered the genre of grotesque literature. The grotesque can also be cross applied to other forms of art, such as film. Director Don Sigel and Producer Walter Wangner collaborated on the award-winning film, Invasion of the Body Snatchers. In the movie, an alien invasion with the intent to usher in a utopia that is homogenous in mentality threatens humanity. The Invasion of the Body Snatchers made its debut during a time of internal turmoil and hysteria during American history. The Invasion of the Body Snatchers is grotesque because it meets the criterion of such works and could…
“The Most Dangerous Game,” by Richard Connell, is a narrative about Mr. Sanger Rainsford, a celebrated hunter, who finds himself on a secluded island after falling overboard a yacht.
