Suzuki grew up catholic, and later in life searched to fill the void in his life with everything but God. He later receives Christ and begins his ministry. Later on in life, Suzuki and Marcia marry, and together begin ministering to the Suruwaha tribe. Suzuki first met the Suruwaha earlier in his ministry, and the couple felt called to continue ministry with them. The new couple and another family of missionaries soon had a house built near the village, and Marcia soon met the Suruwaha. Later, the tribes chief, as well as his cousin, commit suicide. This was detrimental to the tribe, but despite this the tribe soon recovered. Another amazing part of this book is Hakani’s story. Hakani was a Suruwaha child whose parents had commited suicide. The child had birth defects, and was greatly mistreated by the tribe. Hakani is eventually given to the Suzuki couple, in which is amazingly nursed back to health. One of the last accounts we see is the struggle two Suruwaha families go through with their children. It was a very difficult battle for Marcia and Suzuki to get the families children the health care they needed, but they were, in the end, taken care of.
