A Worn Path Research Paper
Some of us can be so busy until we don't have time for anything. We seem to be drown in a sea of to-do lists, rosters, meeting schedules, appointments and never ending cycle of activities. Along the way, subtly, we pick up various emotional baggage. And they are certainly not a quiet bunch. They like to whisper. Like it or not, they slip into your handgrip; stress, discouragement, disappointment, regret, etc. This baggage prefers to hop on our shoulders. And they weigh us down, causing us to activate our natural defense shield, and transform our character belonging only to rhino or a porcupine; a kind of confrontational and withdrawal syndromes respectively. And these, may affect our family members. Dealing with our internal emotions is the part that drains us; not so much from external physical work. This is what it will happen if we do not know how to manage this part of our soul. We may close our eyes, but our brain may not be resting. Before we come to our senses, another day is dawning. We wonder why we are still tired. If ever we still remember God, we drag ourselves up and whisper a simple prayer," God, grant me the strength to weather through today." If we do …show more content…

The B.U.S.Y. battalion is determined to wipe out our resources, as in time, health & most importantly our communion with God. That is their modus operandi. Subordinate characters, whose roles are seemingly unimportant, are thermically critical in Richard Connell’s and Eudora Welty’s short story. A subordinate character often either motivates or challenges the protagonist to do something. The subordinate characters from “The Most Dangerous Game” and “A Worn Path” help the reader understand how the protagonist feels and believes. Both stories are similar since their subordinate characters help express the protagonist’s thoughts, mindset, and characteristics.…

Every so often we come face to face with an obstacle that seems even greater than the last. We fall into a deep physiological pithole where we fear our efforts to climb to the top will not be sufficient enough to actually reach it. First, we try to rationalize the situation. We tell ourselves that the situation is not as bad as it seems and that everything will be fine. But sometimes, when the walls start to close in on us, we break from our false hopes and become desperate to escape. We claw, stomp, and chew at the sides of the pit, yet the pit is unaware of such harassment. The pit isolates us from everyone else, the pit becomes the center of our attention, the pit becomes our new lifestyle. Nevertheless, despite the impossible odds, we can…

Every day we are given a fresh start; another chance to move forward in our lives and accomplish the things we thrive to achieve day to day. A new day can also liberate us from our past mistakes and provide us with a chance to change our ways. We are all faced with misery and misfortune at points in our lives, some more than others. We must recognize that it is not the burden in itself that shapes who we are, but how well or how poorly we deal with the difficulties. Sometimes misfortunes can be seen in a negative light; because it seems unjust, therefore we response in a negative matter, and become negligent to change. Overcoming tragic events is what truly counts, for we are meant to live happily and in acceptance that there are things that we cannot change. In many cases, individuals seem to feel as though they’ve lost an amount so great that they are unable to free themselves of the pain. This perspective often leads to further suffering. A Temporary Matter by Jhumpa Lahou and Kiss Me by Andrew Pyper demonstrate a loss of identity, negligence towards communication, and eventually leading to the destruction of a relationship.…

The shrieking sound of my bed pierced my ears as I rolled over to the “colder” side. Peeking through my bedroom window, was a ray of the rising sun who softly kissed my face as I wistfully arose from my slumber. A burst of summer breeze blew over my body stretching out my bones as it fell upon my skin. I sit up on my rusted bunk and take in a deep breath, as I exhaled, I tell myself that I’m releasing all of the negativity in my body. It’s my therapy.…

Our world is difficult to understand and constantly changing. Often times we find ourselves not being able to keep up with every day demands. As a person goes through life and has ups and downs, their ability to handle the stress varies from person to person. At times, a person has difficulties maintaining all the pressures of issues that sometimes feel to manifest into deep sensations of falling. Not knowing where to turn or where to go to get a clear view of what it is that may has them continuing to feel all of the world is against them. Many people rely on friends and family to get that ear to sort out their troubles. Calm down an agitated person, assisting a friend through a death of a family member, or something as simple as avoiding negative thoughts through distracting, these forms of lending a hand can be described as psychotherapy. Anton Meamer discovered the age-old wisdom in the eighteenth century, early nineteenth. Anton realized that when a person or individual suffers a variety of mental anguish or illness, when put in a hypnotic trance, their symptoms disappeared. Many didn’t understand the nature of what Anton was doing and dismissed a lot of his work. Later, Sigmund Freud rediscovered the theory and showed that the presence of caring, being attentive, becoming a trusted listener assisted with their issues or situations. Allowed a person to focus on their experience through revisiting long forgotten traumatic events and assist with symptoms of the trauma. Through observation, psychotherapy became a form of treatment and a new revolutionary form of therapy was born.…

Throughout my life, I have experienced many situations were I used problem-focused and emotion-focused coping strategies. According to Hutchison (2015), "Problem-focused coping is when an individual changes the situation by acting on the environment" (p.162). A couple days ago, I was so overwhelmed of how much homework was coming up throughout the next couple weeks, so by using problem-focused coping mechanism I began writing down what day I need to finish which homework. This skill helped me become more focused on school, and reduced my stress levels. However, a couple years ago I was faced with the death of my grandmother, which I kept denying and avoiding all my loved ones. This emotional stressor changed my actions towards the ones I…

We all strive for balance in our lives, emotionally, physically, and mentally. But as you all may know retaining that balance is harder for some than others. I will use myself for a example. In March 2010, at the school hospital at University of Washington, I was diagnosed with hereditary depression. I was an emotional wreck, which was new to me because all my life I had always kept a positive attitude, and it wasn’t because life was good and I was happy, no it was because life around me hurt me and I ignored my true feelings.…
