Visiting one of the biggest slums in Africa (Kibera) has been a driving forces in my aspiration to work with young and vulnerable people; it ignited a belief and desire to make a difference and re-enforced my love for and interest in working with children. My interest in children’s nursing also stems from many hospital visits I was required to make as a child; I became inspired by the work of the medical professionals and how well I was treated, and wondered what it would be like to care for others. Learning about equality, diversity and rights within this sector has been of particular interest. Working in a health and social care sector involves working alongside people who are of a different race, religion, age, ethnicity and sexuality and it is important to make sure that all individuals are treated fairly. I have also enjoyed learning about nutrition and the principles of healthy eating, and the impact of poor nutrition, for example, on childhood obesity. I feel strongly about promoting good nutrition and am currently planning a healthy eating and cooking session with a group of students who I am working with. This year I have also enrolled for GCSE Biology, which I am studying through a distance learning college, and this has confirmed my desire to study a science based course at a higher level.
I have recently completed the independent study Extended Project Qualification. Studying this has permitted me to meet deadlines, developed my written and organizational skills and improve my time management skills which would be required throughout my degree. In the column “The Ethicist” by Randy Cohen, he received a question from a reader. It demonstrated how parents are concerned about teachers exchanging donations, from students, for a grade. They believe that this action defeats the purpose and value of charities and donations. Students can easily set expectations for receiving a reward after achieving a considerate act. However this exchanging process is able to inspire students to take generous actions in their future. The exchange can give a student an opportunity to gain many benefits if they decide to participate. This is encouraging students to gain knowledge on life and on the academic experience. This trade allows students to become aware and acknowledge that there are organizations and charities to help out others.…

Whilst growing up I experienced the care and devotion that Nurses provide children with whilst they are in Hospital when I was hospitalised myself; witnessing this again many times when my siblings or cousins were in Hospital. I was in awe of how kind and dedicated the nurses were to their patients and from then I have had a powerful desire to follow in their footsteps. Child Nursing is an extremely challenging, but overwhelmingly rewarding, career path that I have wished to pursue for many years, it was when I began to care for children with disabilities, two years ago, through a local charity that the idea of becoming a Children’s Nurse was entirely cemented into my mind.…

Education has equipped me with a wide range of skills to begin a Child Nursing degree. In English Literature I have enjoyed the freedom of reading texts, developing my critical thinking and analytical writing skills, which I believe will be imperative when studying at degree level. I have also commenced the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), in which I am researching the controversial topic of abortion. This has allowed me to explore the legislations on the protection of children and their wellbeing through reading a number of medical journals and articles which incidentally has convinced me that a career in child nursing would be a gratifying experience. My interest in Human Biology derives from my Health and Social…
