Our next match was at the Edwardsville Freshman Duels and he beat me by points in the third period. Later my freshman year I wrestled Bo at the Conference Championships, and I put everything into that match, but I lost in overtime. ‘Independence or death!’ was proclaimed by Prince Pedro on September 7, 1822 when Brazil's independence was declared. Dom Pedro was an important figure in latin american history because Dom Pedro was the first emperor of Brazil. He was also known as Dom Pedro IV to the portuguese because he was the king of Portugal. When he had fought for Brazil's independence, he proclaimed the quote written above when liberating Brazil from portuguese rule. Actually, this is what he had been known most for; for declaring Brazil independent from Portugal in 1822. He had set up his empire in Brazil before he was ever emperor of Portugal. It wasn't until after his father died (Joao IV) that he had returned to Portugal to claim the crown. When he had left Brazil…

I am David Shane Dobyns, twenty-two years of age; I was born in Puyallup, Washington August 17th 1994 at Good Samaritan hospital. My family consists of my mother, father, and brother. Growing up was as idyllic as one would suspect. In my pre-pubescent years we moved several times bouncing from Oregon to Washington in search of “gods’ plan” for us, finally starting a church of our own in Lubbock, Texas. The church siphoned our time and money to the brink of poverty. Through the eyes of a jaded 5-year-old, everything was but a perfect utopia, neither a problem nor a care in the world. Mother was a stay at home at the wife, dictated by the church, whilst father worked odd jobs donating what blood and platelets he could muster that week to pay…

If I were to be accepted into Thomas Dale’s prodigious Program of the Performing Arts, I would be delighted, not only because I would be able to express my passion for the violin but I could also mingle with the numerous amount of others who possess similar interests as mine. It is also one of my objectives to become a professional musician further along in my career path, Thomas Dale would be one step closer to achieving such an arduous path for a profession. Another reason that seems minor, but is actually significant for my choice of striving for the Arts, is making my wonderful teacher and conductor proud. If I joined the specialty center I would be an asset to the school program because I display a strong fervor for the beautiful music…

What makes golf the phenomenal sport it is today? Is it the game itself? Some say golf started in fifteenth century Scotland by men hitting a pebble with a wooden stick. Currently, graphite drivers routinely send the ball soaring 300 yards. Perhaps it was the golfers who made the game great. Arnold Palmer brought golf to the masses in the 1950’s and Jack Nicklaus has set records that have yet to be broken. However, today sports commentators, pro golfers, and weekend duffers, generally agree the game of golf has been changed forever with the arrival of Tiger Woods.…
