COMPANY INTRODUCTION, MARKET SEGMENTATION, AND PRODUCT POSITIONING
Introduction
In this paper I will introduce you to ABB Inc., a company leader in the power and automation technology business. I will give you the detailed background of ABB Inc, explain their strategic mission and choose a foreign market for their product and service. I will also explain ABB’s marketing plan, discuss the potential audiences for ABB, identify the marketing segment for the product and discuss the target market. I will also perform a SWOT analysis and create the market position for ABB’s product.
Company background
History
ABB Inc. is one of the largest engineering companies in the world. It’s headquarters are located in Zurich, Switzerland with operations in approximately 100 countries. The US headquarter is located in Raleigh, NC. ABB has approximately 160,000 employees in 2013 and reported global revenue of $40 billion for 2012. ABB Inc. was formed in 1988, as a merger of Swiss and Swedish engineering companies and predecessors which was founded in 1883 by Ludvig Fredholm (who established Elektriska Aktiegoaget) and mergeds in 1890 with Westrom & Granstroms Elektriska to form Allmanna Sbenska Elektriska Aktiebolaget (ASEA). In 1891 (Charles E. L. Brown and Walter Boveri establish Brown). With this merger ASEA and Brown Boveri adopted ABB Inc. as their new name and started operations on January 5, 1988 to become one of the most important and successful companies in the power and automation technological industry. The company is divided into four (4) divisions that include Low, Medium and High Voltage Products, Discrete Automation and Motion, Power Products and Systems and Process Automation.
To expand their market and be more competitive and expand their portfolio, ABB Inc. has acquired different engineering and technologies
