The Universal Appeal of the Buddha Dhamma:
A Personal Experience
Namo Tassa Bhagavato Arahato Samm±sambuddhassa!
[Excerpts from a lecture Goenkaji gave at the “Fourth World Buddhist
Summit”, Yangon, Myanmar December 9 to 11 2004. Two more parts of this lecture will be published in the upcoming newsletters. The original texts have been published in the book “Pilgrimage to the Sacred Land of
Dhamma,” VRI 2009.]

Most Venerable Saªgha and Dhamma friends:
Let me first thank the organizers of this conference for kindly inviting me. I would also like to congratulate the organizers for choosing Myanmar as the host for the Fourth
World Buddhist Summit that aims at uniting the followers of the Buddha in order to spread the peaceful message all over the world. We unite and make a collective effort not to dominate the world, not to exploit the world, not to boast the supremacy of one religion over another but to help in a great conversion of humanity—conversion from bondage to liberation, from cruelty to compassion, from discord to concord, from misery to happiness. This is the Buddha’s way.
The Buddha spread the message of peace and harmony.
Emperor Asoka helped to disseminate it further in many countries. And today I am happy to see the World Buddhist
Summit is working in the same

The role of the judge is to present the fact, formalize the event, and to organize the jury. “You may perhaps wish to hear from me exactly what is meant by those words ‘reasonable doubt’” (Sayers 3). At this point in the case, the judge is teaching the jury how to decide whether or not a person is innocent, guilty or proven not guilty. In my opinion I believe that the judge is biased. Shortly after describing the death of Philip Boyes by arsenical poison, he accuses Harriet Vane of being the murder. He says that is a fact she killed him and that the problem to solve in this case is whether or not she murdered him with intent or on accident. The judge at this point is teaching the jury about the case and what they are supposed to agree on to make the final decision whether or not Harriet…

AC/DC is a 5 piece hard rock band from Australia formed in 1973 by the two brothers Angus and Malcolm Young. Their style commonly referred to blues rock and rock n roll with a quite simple rhythmic structure. The band had several line-up changes, Mark Evans was replaced by Cliff Williams in 1977 and after the tragic death of the lead singer and co-songwriter Bon Scott in 1980, ex-Geordie singer Brian Johnson was auditioned and selected to replace Scott. Later that year, the band released the new album, Back in Black, which was made as a tribute to Bon Scott. The album launched them to new heights of success and became their all time best-seller, selling over 10,000 copies a day in its first week. The band's next album, For Those About to Rock We Salute You, was their first album to reach number one in the United States. AC/DC declined in popularity soon after drummer Phil Rudd was fired in 1983 and was replaced by Simon Wright and with Chris Slade in 1989 up till 1994 when Phil Rudd has returned to the band. Since then, the band's line-up has remained the same. As of 2010, AC/DC had sold more than 200 million albums worldwide including 71 million albums in the United States alone. Back in Black has sold an estimated 50 million units worldwide, making it the second-highest-selling album by any artist behind Michael Jackson's Thriller and the highest selling album by any band. Brothers Malcolm, Angus, and George Young were born in Glasgow, Scotland, and moved to Sydney with most of their family in 1963. George was the first to learn to play the guitar. He became a member of the Easybeats, one of Australia's most successful bands of the 1960s. In 1966, they became the first local rock act to have an international hit, with the song "Friday on My Mind".[14] Malcolm followed in George's footsteps by playing with a Newcastle, New South Wales band called the Velvet Underground (not to be confused with the New York-based Velvet Underground).[15] Their oldest brother Alex…

His Holiness the Dalai Lama´s advice proves very beneficial for Tibetan Buddhism as a whole. At present, we enjoy the harmonious co-existence of the Buddhist followers of all four traditions of Tibetan Buddhism. It is universally known that religious fundamentalism breeds antagonism, recrimination, confrontation and factionalism among the religious people. We Tibetan should learn from our political history how religious fundamentalism triggered the proxy war in the late 15th century and the early 16tth century. The mainstream Tibetan Buddhism has made it very clear that Shugden practice is not a part of it from now on. We owe lots of gratitude to His Holiness for his incredible work. Any other person in his place would have easily succumbed to the pressure. His consistent work to promote peace and harmony in this world has earned him respect and love from people around the world. He will be remembered in Tibetan history as the greatest political and religious leader…

Marking one of the most traumatic periods of U.S. history, the Vietnam War spanned more than a decade and caused massive disruption both in Southeast Asia and on the American home front. Although U.S. leaders were often ambiguous about American involvement in Vietnam, they nevertheless pursued a fairly unbroken policy of interference in the country in an effort to halt the spread of communism during the cold war. In the end, the U.S. defeat in Vietnam proved costly, both financially and in terms of the number of lives lost, and diminished America's reputation as the defender of democracy and freedom throughout the world.…

The Buddha's Four Noble Truths: A Logical Basis for Philosophy The Buddha Shakyamuni was born in the 6th century BCE in the area presently known as Nepal. During his 80 year lifetime, he systematically developed a pragmatic, empirically based philosophy which he claimed would lead its followers towards an enlightened existence. Buddhism is commonly called a religion; however, it differs from the usual definition of a religion in that it has no deities, does not promote worship of demigods, and is based on logical reasoning and observation rather than spiritual faith. At the heart of Buddhist philosophy is the Buddha's enumeration of Four Noble Truths: Dukkha (suffering), Samudaya (origin of suffering), Nirodha (cessation of suffering), and Magga (path to cessation of suffering).…
