Expository Essay Outline
I. Introduction (Abortion Is Not The Answer)
a. Attention Grabber – Abortion is a debate that is raging in today’s society. Each opposing side believes that their choice is the correct one.
b. Background Info – If one sees the constitutional infringement to a women by the restriction of abortion; the torment to the unwanted child; and the anguish society has to sustain, then this topic would not be so debatable. Too many people do not see the effect that abortions cause.
c. Thesis – Abortion is murder, there are many other safer choices, and the aftereffects that affect the individual.
II. Body Paragraph One (thesis sub-point number two)
a. Topic Sentence – What gives people the right to kill a child? The fetus is an innocent human life whose only protection in the world is its mother 's womb. The baby may no longer feel protected if its very own mother could have murdered it.
b. Concrete Detail (CD) – In 1982, Ronald Reagan stated: "Simple morality dictates that unless and until someone can prove the unborn human is not alive, we must give it the benefit of the doubt and assume it is (alive). And, thus, it should be entitled to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness." (STAND FOR LIFE)
c. Commentary (CM) – Therefore why does a tiny baby who can feel, breathe, and move be condemned to die without ever saying or doing anything wrong?
d. Commentary (CM) – In the constitution, everyone is given the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Therefore why is it that a baby is not given these rights as well?
e. Concrete Detail – "Human development begins after the union of male and female gametes or germ cells during a process known as fertilization (conception).” (Princeton University)
f. CM – Life begins at the point of conception and not birth, birth is basically one stage in life for human development.
g. CM – Everyone begin somewhere, nobody begins from “nothing”, similarly it begins at the moment a human being is biologically made.
h. Concrete Detail – “If we intentionally end any stage of a human life in development, we are committing an act of murder, as it has been defined by our society from its humble beginnings.” (Dougherty, 2001)
i. CM – Therefore if we end a child’s life while he or she is in the womb while still being developed, is it fair that abortion isn’t considered as murder.
j. CM – Every humans is capable of normal growth and development the moment of conception, why is it that a mother can end a common life that hasn’t committed a single sin?
k. Transition Sentence – Life is as real as death, as a result this human being does not get the chance to develop, mature, and be given the same rights as everyone else. There are even safer choices that mothers can chose rather than destroying the innocent child’s life.
III. Body Paragraph Two (thesis sub-point number two)
a. Topic Sentence – All mothers have to make choices in life, even women who decide to abort their own child.
b. Concrete Detail (CD) – Women who are “facing an unplanned pregnancy can be very difficult and scary, and deciding what to do will be even harder.” (Adoption vs. Abortion vs. Parenting)
c. Commentary (CM) – Therefore the mothers who have an unplanned pregnancy are faced with lots of stress, and maybe even denial, they will think of possible options for their pregnancy: parenting, adoption, or even abortion. There are also very understandable circumstances that a mother will abort their child, like being raped or is in a life threatening situation. (Adoption vs. Abortion vs. Parenting)
d. Commentary (CM) – Women who are raped and choose to abort the baby can be highly understandable, therefore she would have to live her life seeing that child and constantly be reminded that something devastating happened to her; however an innocent life is being taken away, when there is always a safer and better solution. Nevertheless is it fair that a lady who makes an irresponsible choice in bed abort a child even if the baby didn’t make the bad decision?
e. Concrete Detail – However “most women are scared and just want the ‘problem’ to go away. Abortion is not the solution; it can create more problems than it solves.” (Family to Family Adoptions Inc Adoptive Families Birth Mothers)
f. CM – It is important to understand that abortions can hurt the mother physically and mentally, and especially the people around her.
g. CM – Although all women do have the legal rights to choose the outcome of the pregnancy, but real consent comes when finding the inner strength to choose the right path.
h. Concrete Detail – “Abortion is not just a simple medical procedure. For many women, it is a life changing event with significant physical, emotional, and spiritual consequences. Most women who struggle with past abortions say that they wish they had been told all of the facts about abortion and its risks.” (Abortion Is Not The Answer)
i. CM – Mothers need to think about the child and how the unborn baby should have the privilege to live and develop.
j. CM – However, women with unplanned pregnancies can be in so much denial and do not know what path to choose, and chooses abortion.
k. Transition Sentence – Even though all women have a decision weather to choose if they want an abortion there are many side effects.
IV. Body Paragraph Three (thesis sub-point number three)
a. Topic Sentence – There are many physical side effects after having an abortion, which all women should be aware of.
b. Concrete Detail (CD) – “It is possible to experience these side effects for as long as 2 to 4 weeks following the procedure: Abdominal pain and cramping, Nausea, Vomiting, Diarrhea, Spotting and Bleeding.” (Possible Physical Side Affects After Abortion)
c. Commentary (CM) – Many people think that abortion only destroys the child, but it also my cause side effects to the mother. Abortion procedures may affect the mother in several different ways: medical complications, emotional difficulties, and/or societal problems.
d. Commentary (CM) – Therefore if a woman ever wants an abortion must consider the possibilities of medical compilations. Women can also have emotional side effects after the abortion
e. Concrete Detail – “When talking about emotional side effects following an abortion, most people are wondering about negative side effects.” (Possible Physical Side Affects After Abortion)
f. CM – Women can actually suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder, this is characterized by long-lasting guilt, depression, rage, social and sexual dysfunction.
g. CM – Often, women are not taken into consideration are the negative effects after abortion, which are the psychological and physical. Ultimate results may actually be worse that the problems, which were to be solved to begin with. These after-effects should be focused on and dealt with in a better manner than they usually are.
h. Concrete Detail – “When an abortion is performed on a woman, she becomes subject to many physical complications. Blood loss during the procedure causes diversion of blood flow to various organs and can result in shock. When the canal of the cervix is dilated, the insides of the uterus, fallopian tubes, and the abdominal cavity are exposed to invasion by bacteria.” (The Physical And Spiritual Effects Of Abortion)
i. CM – In fact future pregnancies can also be a failure, there are also other complications like having premature birth, tubal pregnancy, and even breast cancer.
j. CM – In addition, abortion can hurt women spiritually because it is not a simply process of evacuating the contents of a uterus, but the ending of a human life.
k. Transition Sentence – Therefore, this is why abortion should be illegal, because when two people create a child, even if it is a fetus it should still be considered a child because it is a living breathing organism made by the two people.
V. Conclusion
a. Restate Thesis – As a result abortion is never the right answer because abortion is murder, there are many other safer choices, and the after effects can affect the individual
b. Final Thoughts – In the end, abortion is not a logical act to commit. It ruins families and individuals because it is an irreversible process. There are many other options for a person to choose instead of killing off their child, abortion is wrong when used for narcissistic reasons. There are many other things people can do to prevent abortion. Women can use adoption as a solution, it can harm the mother as well, but an innocent life is not being taken away. Abortion should not be legalized. People who have had an abortion normally feel remorseful because they know that getting an abortion is not the right way to get out of pregnancy.

298). If this position is accepted, abortion is morally permissible as fetuses do not satisfy the conditions for personhood and there is no loss of a future. However under this umbrella, infanticide, the act of killing an infant, is morally permissible as they do not meet the criteria to be considered a person and fetuses and infants are intertwined within the same category. Although the terms Warren has outlined is accepted, it can be agreed upon that infants do possess a valuable future (although they are not termed as persons). Infants have the potential to have experiences, enjoyment, achievement and other values that would have constituted a future and the same can be implied to fetuses. By claiming abortion is morally permissible, and since a fetus does not satisfy the terms of being a person, it is ultimately accepting that it is morally permissible to commit infanticide, as both agents are not persons. These actions rob both a future and a life if the liberal position is accepted. I will now provide a reason as to why the loss of future is not a loss of a life by analyzing the mother’s future (or lack…

By the time the mother even realizes she is pregnant, her baby contains its own set of DNA. In a matter of a few short weeks, the baby has a heartbeat of its own, along with developing organs. At 25 weeks, the baby has regular brain waves and activity. Therefore, the popular argument that a pregnant woman can take the life of her baby because its, “part of her body,” is ridiculous. The baby is its own separate person with its own rights.…

    B. Thesis: Abortion is a highly controversial topic in America. The act of disregarding a human life and terminating a pregnancy should only be performed on women who have been victims of rape, incest, or failed contraception. Instances where the pregnancy is terminated because the child threatens the health and well being of the female should also be a valid reason for an abortion to be performed. Other than those circumstances listed, the fetus should have the right to develop and have a life of its own.…

Lee and George expand on the idea that “the human embryo, from conception onward, is fully programmed actively to develop himself or herself to the mature stage of a human being, and, unless prevented by disease or violence, will actually do so” (2). The moment the sperm and egg combine is when a living creature begins to form. Every single individual began as a human the size of a pinkie-everyone still grows and evolves into a more mature individual, just as any age person grows more everyday. It is human nature to finish whatever you start; you can’t just kill a flower right before it begins to bloom. A beating heart and developing brain begin to form as soon as four weeks after conception. In “Why I Am Pro-Life”, Thomas Friedman recalls the importance of having a presence on this Earth and that “respect for life has to include respect for how that life is lived, enhanced and protected — not only at the moment of conception but afterward” (4). Life is a gift should be treasured, not something where you can just get rid just because you made a mistake. When a woman gets an abortion, she is depriving the child of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. So how exactly do you define life? Life is any creature that is growing and has a niche in a certain environment; this includes the “clump of cells” that will evolve and flourish into a…

The choice between adoption and abortion changes millions of lives every day. Some advocates of abortion feel if the mother of the child thinks that she will not be a good parent or thinks she will harm the child, that she has the right to abort the child. Abortion is a life changing decision and has the reputation of being an easy way out of an unwanted pregnancy. Adoption, on the other hand, is one way for a woman who is not prepared to be a parent to provide her child the best life possible without being involved in the child’s life. According to national estimates, one million children in the United States live with adoptive parents and from 2% to 4% of American families include an adopted child (Stolley). Those who truly care about children and ultimately want the best for them should consider these life-changing decisions and seriously weigh both the positives and the negatives. It is extremely important to ask which choice is best for an unborn child: adoption or abortion. It is important to compare and contrast these options before a life altering decision is made. However, this is not a choice to be taken lightly. One of the most controversial debates involving pregnancy is a woman’s right to terminate an unborn child or place that child for adoption with another family.…
