Abortion has been and continues to be a controversial topic in the United States. For many years there have been disputes for women’s life and the life of the child. Some people view it as someone not taking responsibility, others see it as a personal choice.
The World Health Organization estimated in 2004 that unsafe abortions caused 68,000 maternal deaths worldwide each year (“AbortionsProcon.org”). Women tend to have unsafe abortions when they are denied abortions or do not have access to a legal and safe abortion. Women face many complications when it comes to abortions. A shot is given to the fetus through the head then an ultrasound is made, if the fetus does not die the method is repeated. As a result, complications such as infections and hemorrhages may occur (“Abortion methods”). Dilation and evacuation is a type of abortion used in the second trimester. At this time the baby is twenty four weeks old. (“Abortion methods”). The abortionists uses forceps to grab the fetus’ arms and legs, the abortionist tears the fetus apart. At twenty four weeks the fetus skull has hardened so the abortionist must use a forcep to crush the fetus head. Hemorrhages, infections and even death can occur from this procedure(“Abortion methods”). Another form of abortion is Medical Abortion is simply using drugs to abort the baby.
