“Ohio pols should trust women to make reproductive decisions” was written by Kellie Copeland. She is the executive director of the NARAL pro-choice.
NARAL stands for the National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League, it is a non-governmental organization in the United States that engages in political action to oppose restrictions on abortion and expand access to abortion.
Kellie Dee Copeland Swisher, is the name she picked up last, when she married Dr. Stephen Lowell Swisher on the 18th of July, 2008. She was married to two other men before, whom she had her 4 children from. Rachel and Lindsey were from her first husband Doyle Blaine Ward. Jenny and Max are from her second husband, Alan Kutz.
This Article talks about the abortion rules that the state of Ohio follows. And how some women simply do not like the fact that other people make decision on their behalf, concerning their private lives, and are speaking up for their selves. Kellie Copeland took the advantage of her running a high position in the organization that she is in, to speak on behalf of all the women who agree with her, that abortion is a personal issue, and nobody or no one can control it.
So she wrote an article in The Plain Dealer on the 29th of Jan of this year, talking about abortion.
Obviously here Kellie is an advocate of abortion, and she is against the new law forbidding it.
The Same politicians that made debates on how the government had no right to interfere in the health decisions of Americans are now interfering themselves. Kellie talking on behalf of the American woman, in how abortion is not something the government should interfere in, makes this argument effective. And not talking about the other side of the story, why other people think the law is good makes the article ineffective and weak at the same time.
Moreover, the article continues to prove the politicians wrong in the decision they are making. Kellie talks about the bad things that will happen if abortions get out-lawed. First of all, she clearly states that if abortion gets out-lawed, it will NOT be the end of abortion; in fact it will only make things worse. Second of all, she lists ways on how abortion will still be done. Wealthy women will go out of state to seek legal and safe abortion care. And how other women with no financial means, will tend to use unsafe methods which may lead in them being injured, imprisoned or even dead.
Third of all, she states how it is a public violation of women’s private rights to decide what they want and don’t want. Showing the cons of the decision Kellie is defending, makes the argument even more effective. It attracts the reader to her side of the argument.
However, the author does not really talk much about the other side of the story, the side of the people supporting the law, which makes the argument a little weak, because the reader doesn’t know the other part of the story. But this might be because this is coming from a woman’s point of view, and most likely she will not like anything that might offend her only because she is a woman.
Her tone very sarcastic and angry throughout the article; she does that by stating questions without answers, to make the reader think about the message she is trying to make people understand.
Finally to conclude, the things that make the article effective to some point are: first of all, which is the most important, is that it is coming from a woman, and so the subject under attack is responding with what they think is right or wrong for their own lives. Second, we can see how she is hostile about taking women’s rights away, and she calls the anti-group “crazy”. Third, she mentions how the government makes private family issues, public, which is a violation of their privacy. Fourth, forbidding abortion does not make things any better in the state, but instead it makes things worse, because women who are determined on having an abortion will do it, in some way or the other. And some ways may end up in having the woman seeking abortion injured or in jail.
The only thing that would make the article ineffective is that she did not mention the other point of view, the people who support the law. And why do they support it, they may have more convincing reasons that might make the reader change their mind and become with the law instead of against it.
All this relates to the statement made in the introduction, the writer mentioning some things that make article effective, and in the same time, not mentioning other things, that makes it ineffective.

The way abortion is treated in the Courts provides an example of the disregard for abortion procedures and how it affects the rights specified in Roe (Whitman 1985). This lack of appreciation for the impact Roe v. Wade had on American women has led to a woman’s right to choose to become compromised (Whitman 1985). The Supreme Court essentially gave women the right to an abortion, allegedly free from state coercion, without offering any evidence as to why it is important to women (Whitman 1980). The consequences of not being able to obtain an abortion are hard to envision without the understanding required to think rationally about the subject. The lack of understanding of the ethical obligations that women are forced to consider is perhaps…

The harm that women could suffer from abortion was never really considered in the Roe v. Wade case. Abortion was viewed as being synonymous with good health, and the only harm to consider for women was not being allowed to have an abortion. The presumption that Roe consulted with a physician to gain medical guidance was important evidence leading the Court to believe it was an informed decision. “Assumptions about doctor-patient counseling were an important part of the Court’s rationale for extending constitutional privacy rights to abortion” (Adams, 2005, p.335). Roe used the burden of unwanted pregnancy as an argument, stating that the child would not be cared for because it is unwanted and that childcare would be taxing on the mother’s mental…

In the editorial, the author clearly establishes his/her context within the first few paragraphs. Arguing against anti-abortion campaigns, the author begins by briefly explaining the opposing argument. For example, Rick Perry’s comment “we will continue to pass laws to ensure that abortions are as rare as possible under the existing law” is mentioned. Not only does the citation of the evidence help improve the article’s perceived validity, but shines a harsh light and tone around the anti-abortion campaign. The author then presents his/her ideas on the subject matter and provides logical evidence. The majority of the argument was based upon logic, appealing to the logos, improving credibility. The author argues “women will be forced to wait until later in their pregnancies, when there is a higher risk of…

One of the biggest moral issue today is woman's rights with abortion. Many people argued for the rights to keep abortion while others argued for banning it. In the article "The Rights of a Woman Do Not Outweigh the Rights of A Child" by Judith Jarvis Thomson, who is a philosopher and invented an analogy for her debate, talks about how a child has more right than the mother in the case of abortion and that abortion is the same thing as "killing" , Thomson says. Thomson claims the idea that anyone can argue that all abortion is impermissible. The article "Abortions Should Be Restricted to Before Twenty Weeks Gestation" by Douglas Johnson who is…

For many years, abortion has been perhaps the most controversial issue in America. The controversy is between protecting an unborn child’s life and taking away a woman’s constitutional freedom to choose. Those who are Pro-Choice believe that a woman should be allowed to control their own body and no one has the right to compel their morals on them. Pro-Life advocates like Jennifer Simmons, believe that a constitutional amendment should be pass giving equal protection to all including unborn children. To voice her opinion and spread her beliefs, Simmons wrote a paper to reach out and convince those undecided minds that Pro-Life is morally the only choice.…

The control of fertility has always been a topic issue for women. Different pre conception and post conception procedures have been practiced since the ancient times. Abortion has become a major topic for everyone in the United States. It became very focused when the Roe Vs. Wade case was passed. This is because many individuals have strong, colliding opinions on abortion and it’s laws. The two main group views of abortion are pro-life and pro-choice. Pro-life are individuals who believe abortion is wrong, and pro-choice are people who believe it is up to the mother to choose what she wants. While one particular view has not been proven to be correct or incorrect, it has brought many persuasions to the table on what should be considered the…

On January 22, 1973, a monumental ordeal for all of the United States had come about. Abortion was legalized. It was the Supreme Court case of Roe v. Wade that made us take a turn into this political issue. In this case Norma McCorvey who used the pseudonym ‘Jane Roe’, was an unmarried woman who wasn’t permitted to terminate her unborn child, for the Texas criminal abortion law made it impossible to perform an abortion unless it was putting the mother’s health in danger. Jane Roe was against doing it illegally so she fought to do it legally. In the court cases ruling they acknowledged that the lawful right to having privacy is extensive enough to cover a woman’s decision on whether or not she should be able to terminate her pregnancy . No matter how this case was viewed it was and even now it is unconstitutional. It is unconstitutional in view of the fact that in the constitution we protect life, a fetus is a developing human, so their life should be protected by the constitution…

As cryptic a question as it comes across sonically, a pondering wonder under the microscope of liberty. We are the land of the free. Home of the brave! As brave as we are we must show a sliver of courage in tackling the issue of abortion head on without intent of further prolonging. Referring back to the land of the free, we must regard our very words sang in tune to our pledge of allegiance and practice the proud words we preach. A women’s body is a sacred place, for her and her only. To infer to the women of America that pregnancy means a guaranteed ride through labor and the birth of her child in the same breath that we preach freedom is a tale of irony for the ages. As beautiful as a new life is, the government is not the one going through the nine month journey or living through the ambiguity of what may happen under the women’s situation. As cherished as a new life is, not always is it the best option for the women and to force a women through an unwanted process to bear an unwanted child is unfair to not only the women, but the child brought into the world unrequested .These very thoughts can so easily drive one into depression. It’s inconceivable that people will fight a fight they have no business in, especially when the Constitution gives a “guarantee of certain areas or zones of privacy." In a world where fundamental rights are slowly slipping through the grasp that once clutched the pole to our flag, it is essential to fight any naysayers of the rights involving personal issues, especially…

There are hundreds of social problems in the USA today and one of the most complicated is abortion. Abortion is so complicated because it affects a woman’s body, causing it to be a very personal and emotional issue, but at the same time because it is affecting a future American citizen, it becomes a problem that America as a society has to deal with. This causes America to be split into two sides, one side claiming that it should be the woman’s choice since they think it affects the woman alone and the other side claiming that it affects society as a whole and can’t be left to the woman alone to decide. The later position would seem to be the accurate claim considering the fact that over 50 million babies have been aborted in America since…

Abortion is an on-going debate throughout the United States. Americans divide 50% as pro-choice and 44% on pro-life. (Saad, 2015) Majority of women side with pro-choice, and being a woman myself, I stand with pro-choice. I believe that it’s an individual’s right to decide what they’re doing to their bodies, and no one else should be allowed to deny them of said right. There are many different reasons as to why someone would get an abortion. Whether it be from results of rape, birth control failure, teen pregnancy, or whatever the case may be, every abortion is thought out and no option is an easy option.…
