Abortion is Morally Wrong (Natural Law Theory) Dating a man you have only known for a few weeks, you discover your pregnant. You inform your partner of the news to discover he does not want a family. He states that it’s your choice on what to do as long as he doesn’t have to be apart of your life or the expected child’s life. You are now left alone with the choice to raise the child alone or to have an abortion. What is morally right in this situation, to keep the child or an abortion? The Natural Law Theory states an action is right if and only if in performing the action one does not directly violate any of the basic values (human life, procreation, knowledge, and sociability). The killing of an innocent human being is wrong, even if that human being has not yet been born. A fetus is alive and has a heart beat 21 days after conception (CWA). According to Concerned Women of America, “Almost 54% of abortions occur from 7-12 weeks when a baby already has a developing nose, mouth, ears, intestines, brain waves, touch response, hiccups, and more”. The action of an abortion ends a human life and their possible future. Another reason it is morally wrong is because it would stop human procreation. It is human nature to engage in sexual activity to have an offspring. By using contraception, sterilization, and having an abortion, this would limit human procreation. “Human reproduction ensures survival and by limiting it we will slowly endanger our own species”, according to the Scientific American. Abortion not only kills the fetus but it ends all the fetus will ever be. Not only is a life taken but also a future. Don Marquis states in his Article, Why Abortion is Immoral, “Abortion deprives the unborn child of the possibility of having a future like ours, and that is morally wrong. By taking away the chance for the child to live, it is the same as taking away the child’s chance to become something”. That child could become the reason cancer is cured or creating world peace.
