Abortion issue brief
Abortion The debate over whether or not abortion should be a legal option continues to divide. Proponents, identifying themselves as pro-choice, contend that abortion is a right that should not be limited by governmental or religious authority, and which outweighs any right claimed for an embryo or fetus. They argue that pregnant women will resort to unsafe illegal abortions if there is no legal option. Opponents, identifying themselves as pro-life, assert that personhood begins at conception, and therefore abortion is the immoral killing of an innocent human being. They say abortion inflicts suffering on the unborn child, and that it is unfair to allow abortion when couples who cannot biologically conceive are waiting to adopt.

Pros
• Fetuses are incapable of feeling pain when an abortion is performed

• Access to legal, professionally-performed abortions reduces injury and death caused by unsafe, illegal abortions

• Modern abortion procedures are safe

• Abortion gives couples the option to choose not to bring babies with severe and life-threatening medical conditions to full term

• Many women who choose abortion don't have the financial resources to support a child

Cons
• Unborn babies are human beings from the moment of conception. Abortion involves killing a human being, which defies a commandment from God

• Fetuses feel pain during the abortion procedure.

• Abortions cause psychological damage

• Abortion providers are in business to make money rather than to assist their clients

• Abortion increases the likelihood of future miscarriages

My Opinion

I feel like that abortions should not being legalized. Everybody should get a chance at life. By getting abortion you are taking away a life, you are taking away what could have been a person and you just ended their life before it even really got to start you didn’t even give them a chance. I think if you don’t want the baby or you’re not financially secure don’t get an abortion, you should put the baby up for adoption. By doing that you are still giving the baby a chance to live its own life.

Imagine a young child at the playground, slipping down a slide, swinging on the monkey bars, and laughing with glee. When a mother decides to get an abortion, that entire image goes away with a blink of an eye. What that mother might not know is her child might be the next person to cure cancer or be the greatest movie star of all time. The public is divided on this issue and they do not know if one should be pro-life or pro-choice. People that believe in pro-choice think the decision should be up to the mother. It is the mother’s body and she should have the right to decide what happens to it. However, every life matters and the child should not be in the cross fire of the mother’s decision. Abortion violates the child’s right to live and…

Abortion is a term used for the termination of the pregnancy by removing of the embryo or the fetus from the uterus of a woman. The abortion takes place in two ways. It can be induced abortion or it can be spontaneous abortion. In the induced abortion, the pregnancy is aborted intentionally, but the spontaneous abortion take place of its own due to some natural or accidental reasons. But whatever be the reason, the word abortion is always a burning issue in the society and politics. In the United States, abortions were legalized after the case Roe v. Wade, 1973 ruled that laws banning abortion were unconstitutional. Since then, groups supporting the right to abortion (“pro choice”) and groups against abortion (“pro life”) have continued to have ideological battles over which argument should be the law of the land. However, a woman is best capable of deciding whether or not she is able and willing to care for a child. Thus, she should similarly be able to decide whether or not she wishes to terminate an unwanted pregnancy.…

One of the most controversial issues today is the topic of abortion. For many years people have been debating over whether abortions should be legal or not. There are two sides to this debate. Those who are pro-choice, do not think that a fetus is a living human being yet with a right to live. They believe it is entirely up to a woman to choose what she does with her own body (Being Pro-Choice). Those people who are pro-life argue otherwise. They believe that abortion is wrong and should be made completely illegal. I am one of them people who are pro-life. Having an abortion is the same as killing another human. It is inhumane, it is a sin,…

The Bible does not discern between an infant and a fetus, therefore. There are many scripture quotations from the Bible that are relevant to the topic of abortion, for example, Jeremiah 1:5. God is speaking to the young boy Jeremiah in this scripture. He speaks of knowing the boy before he was formed in the womb (www.saintaquinas.com/mortal_sin.html). It is clear we have a soul before conception has taken place in this scripture. God clearly values us as human beings at the time of conception. The implication is that we should also value fetuses as human beings with souls. The sixth commandment (Exodus 20:13) makes killing a sin. Abortion is murder since we are valued as human beings while we are still in the womb. Abortion is therefore not only a sin but a mortal sin. St. John differentiates between a venial sin and a mortal sin in John 5:16-17. All sin is an offense to God, however, some sins are graver than others. It is, for instance, a graver sin to murder someone than to lie to someone. A venial sin still offends God and should be avoided because if we continue to sin in this way it can lead to mortal sin. In this passage John tells us if we commit a venial sin to pray, essentially asking for forgiveness. Jesus warns us that we will not be allowed into the kingdom of heaven if we commit a mortal sin, we will burn. A mortal sin must meet three criteria:…

Abortion is defined as the ending of pregnancy by removing a fetus or embryo from the womb before it can survive on its own. The process of abortion involves terminating a pregnancy by the removing or expelling of a foetus or embryo from the uterus. A lot of women give reasons like being raped, incest, financial difficulty and a controversial one is if the child has a disability or defect. However the fact remains that abortion is a very controversial topic because its frequency of occurrence around the world, legal consequences, and its cultural and religious status varies extensively in different regions of the world especially in Africa and the United States of America. There are many high-profile groups that champion either pro-choice or pro-life and this is well documented between Democrats and Republicans. Such organizations bring up a host of issues to further their agenda. In the United States, pro-life groups favour greater legal restrictions on abortion, or even the complete criminalization of it. Their argument is that a human foetus is a human being with a right to live, and so abortion is equal to murder. In contrast, pro-choice groups argue that a woman has certain reproductive rights, especially the choice on whether or not to carry a pregnancy to term.…

Recently, I read “Arguments for and Against Abortions” that discussed the history of the abortion debate. I found that there are two major groups who often have heated discussion about their belief on whether abortion is right or wrong choice for women to do. Abortion… one of the most talked about issues in our society today. What is abortion? It involves one terminating a pregnancy by removing or expelling of a fetus or embryo from the uterus. Women and Men often find themselves facing the dilemma of whether or not to end a pregnancy. People have often had differences in opinion about this controversial topic because some feel that it is unethical as it regards to legal, cultural, and religious views. Most people are either all for, or against having the abortion procedure being done they’re very few who are undecided about this issue. There are many high-profile groups two in particular that acclaim either Pro-Life or Pro-Choice. United States pro-life groups feel there should be greater restrictions on abortion or even ban it. They argue that a human fetus is a human being with a right to live, so to them abortion is like murder. In contrast, you have the pro-choice organization that says women have the reproduction rights, to make the choice on whether or not she wants to carry a pregnancy to term. So many questions are raised when it comes to this matter. Is having an abortion is right or wrong? To me abortion is every women's right. Pro-life will argue statement such as abortion is murder, if a woman is willing to have sex, she’s knowingly taking the risk of getting pregnant, and should be responsible for her actions, adoption is a viable alternative to abortion, and rape doesn’t justify an abortion just to name a few.…
