Abortions Essay
Abortions have been one of the most controversial topics for many decades. Since the Ancient Egyptians right up until now, people have struggled with this issue. In my opinion, abortions are just another form of murder and there should be, without question, a law against it all around the world.

I believe that life begins directly at conception. When one sperm fights its way to the mothers egg, it sets in motion one of the greatest miracles on earth. As the foetus grows in the mother’s womb, it develops arms, legs, and all the other characteristics known to humans. People in favour of abortions tend to argue that foetuses aren’t actually humans. I happen to strongly disagree with this statement. In biology class I’m sure you all learned that we have a total of 46 chromosomes which make up our DNA. DNA is what defines every single human being on the planet and what separates us from other species. Foetuses have 46 chromosomes just like me and you, so why would they not be considered humans?

Then there is the debate that women should have control over their own bodies and what they do with it. Studies done by Janet DiPietro, a specialized psychologist from John Hopkins University, revealed that a 32-week-old foetus bears almost no differences to a newborn baby. Even before this stage foetuses develop taste buds, learn to move, can dream and are responsive to all sorts of stimuli including the sound of its mother’s voice. As you can see a foetus is clearly a human which means that under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms they have a say in whether they live or die. No civilized society should allow one human to intentionally harm another and abortion is no different.

If facilitating the murder of a developing human wasn’t enough, abortions also cost taxpayers like me and you money. According to Stats Canada, about 65 thousand abortions happen every year in Canada costing Canadian taxpayers 80 million dollars. What’s worse, is that abortions can result in other medical complications. Ectopic pregnancies, miscarriages and pelvic inflammatory disease are just three risks which increase after a woman has an abortion. Not only is this bad for the poor woman, but it also costs taxpayers even more money to fund the treatment of these complications.

In my opinion there should only be two exceptions to a law against abortions. The first would be when a woman is raped and the second being if a woman is in serious danger of death if she goes through with a pregnancy. Other than that I believe that it is the responsibility of couples to take precautionary measures if they don’t want kids.

According to the National Abortion Federation, more then 50 % of abortions are by women between the ages of 15-24. They argue that they aren’t ready to have a child, and that he or she won’t get the love and care that they deserve. I understand this point but these women should consider adoption. Millions of families in North America want to adopt a child which means there no such thing as an unwanted baby. Instead of crushing the greatest miracle on earth, women wanting an abortion should look to adoption.

Now is the time to save the lives of many developing humans. Now is the time to save taxpayers millions of dollars. Now is the time to end these murders. And, now is the time to make a law against abortions.

“Abortion is not a crime in Canada but it is an area of the law” (Duhaime, 2010) that isn’t black and white. It has been completely legal since 1988 and our government should keep it that way. For as much as some people are anti-abortion or ‘pro-life’ they need to understand that women have abortions for a variety of reasons one being that an abortion can actually benefit the unborn child. Those who are anti-choice also claim that abortion is wrong because it violates the rights of the fetus, but what about the rights of the woman? It is a woman’s right to decide what she does with her body and though it is much debated; a fetus by logical argument is not a person and does not hold any rights. Finally, even if abortion was made illegal as it was many decades ago, desperate measure to abort unwanted children would be taken by many expecting women, with dire consequences. It is from these four statements that one can say that abortion should continue to be legal in Canada.…

Abortion is murder of an innocent life, and it is completely wrong in every way. There is no justification that could cover the fact that we are murdering our most defenseless human beings, and if anything we should be doing everything to protect them and keep them safe from danger, but yet some are doing the complete opposite. Abortion should never be an option, and one should never feel like abortion is the only choice because it is not the only choice. One must understand that abortion is not just, and people must come to their senses and realize the true outcomes of aborting a…

Life starts when two reproductive cells unite. It is false to say that life begins when a baby is born. If they aren’t alive, then why do women kill them? Babies start as a tiny embryo, and they grow and grow. They are born, then they keep growing into an infant, and then a child, and then eventually an adult. The only difference between the embryo in the womb, and the adult lots and lots of nutrition and say 20 years time. “Abortion (is) murder (because) the being inside the mother is living. The definition of something living includes the ability to grow, which is exactly what is going on inside a woman who is pregnant. An abortion ceases the growing process, therefore ending the future life of a human being. This little being may not start off with a heartbeat or brain activity, but cells are still dividing and allowing it to grow.” (Ross,…

The main argument pertaining to abortion is whether or not a fetus is a "person" that is "indistinguishable from the rest of us" and if it deserves rights equal to women's. On this question there is a tremendous spectrum of religious, philosophical, scientific, and medical opinion, but it all really depends on who you ask. It's been argued for centuries. Fortunately, our society has recognized that each woman must be able to make this decision, based on her own conscience. To impose a law defining a fetus as a "person," granting it rights equal to or superior to a woman's, thinking, feeling, conscious human being, is not only arrogant but absurd. It only serves to diminish a woman's value. (Heritage House 76, Inc.)Under the view of pro choice supporters the embryo is not a baby since it can not survive and live outside the uterus since it receives everything needed to survive from the mother's body. In a sense the fetus dies but it was never living to begin with so it can not be considered an act of murder as pro-lifers would argue. More simply consider acorns and trees. (Robinson) Just as an acorn is a fertilized egg of the oak, that does not make it a tree. Sure it has the potential to become an oak tree, but it has not yet grown to that…

Having an abortion does not cause harm nor is it killing a person. So, is abortion really murder? When does a person become a person? Will you need a brain a heart and other working body parts? A fetus brain does not work while it is developing nor does its heart. Even we need our hearts to beat to be alive. The fetus does not feel pain while being aborted this is backed by science. The spinal cord and nerves are not developed to feel pain. 89-92% of all abortions happen during the first trimester, prior to the 13th week of pregnancy (CDC). 1.4% occurred after twenty-one weeks' of a pregnancy (CDC). The 1.4 that took place after the 21 week mark was because the fetus was fatal to mother if it was not removed. Embryos and fetuses are not independent beings. They cannot live on their own and are not self-sustaining. Birth days are counted from the day they take their first breath in this earth, not the time that a male and female conceive them. . The majority vote in favor in Roe v. Wade states that "the word 'person,' as used in the Fourteenth Amendment [of the US Constitution], does not include the…

According to When Religion and Politics mix , “a fetus is a unborn human being, and it is morally wrong to take a human life; the unborn child's life must consequently be legally protected.” A woman should have the right to do what she wants to do with her body and her life, but not with another human being. According to Vieira, the baby is entitled to his or her rights to life and to have a chance in this world (Vieira 1). A baby should not have to lose his or her life because of the parents decisions. A baby is a human just like the mother and father. The parents are responsible for their own actions and should have to deal the consequences. The baby should not be punished because of his or her parents decision. If the mother does not want the baby, they should chose another option.…

One question that is often asked is “when does life begin?” Depending on who you are, this answer will greatly differ. I will stick to the facts, in my opinion, the facts will speak for themselves. According to Keith L. Moore, writer of Essentials of Human Embryology, "Human development begins after the union of male and female gametes or germ cells during a process known as fertilization (conception).” 18 days after conception the heart begins to beat and the growing baby can suck its thumb, 40 days after conception brainwaves have been recorded, and at only eight weeks all body systems are present. Sounds like a human life to me and considering abortion is completely legal during the first trimester or first 12 weeks it also sounds like murder. It is best written in Dr. Suess’ Horton Hears a Who “A person is a person no matter how small.”…

Abortion has been a heavily debated political, ethical, and moral dispute continuing for more than a decade after it was legalized in the United States in January 22, 1973. This decade long debate between “pro-life” activists and “pro-choice” activists usually stem from ones ethical and moral values of whether it is right to surgically or medicinally terminate a fetus and the extremes, like death of the mother, which could occur from the pregnancy. In this debate, I would view myself as a “pro-choice” activist because I firmly believe that abortion should continue to be legal to decrease the number of unintended mothers, broken or single parent families, and family poverty.…

These are problems across a lot of countries, including ‘developed’ countries like New Zealand. Women who are denied an abortion are more likely to become unemployed, to be on public welfare, to be below the poverty line, and become victims of domestic violence. A university in California at San Francisco study found that women who were turned away from abortion clinics were three times more likely to be below the poverty level. Seventy six percent of the outcasts ended up on unemployment benefits compared with the forty four percent who had abortions. The same study found that women unable to have an abortion were more likely to stay in an abusive relationship than a woman who had an abortion, and were more than twice as likely to become victims of domestic violence. If abortions were illegal what kind of life would the child have? Would the child have a good education? Would the child go to university get a good job stay out of trouble? If you were living in these conditions would you be happy? Safe?…

A fetus has a heartbeat, and is developing into a full human. . The legalization of abortion sends a message that human life has little value. It also causes women to have psychological distress. "Young adult women who undergo... abortion may be at increased risk for subsequent depression." (Abortions cause psychological damage. ) Abortion can lead to future problems for the mother. "Induced abortion by vacuum aspiration is associated with an increased risk of first-trimester miscarriage in the subsequent pregnancy." (Epidemiology) An unborn baby at 20 weeks gestation “is fully capable of experiencing pain. … Without question, [abortion] is a dreadfully painful experience for any infant subjected to such a surgical procedure.” (Robert J. White)People need to take responsibility for their actions and accept the consequences. Too many women use abortion as a…
