Abraham Lincoln
The United States of America has not always been as structured and cultured as we see today. America had to be built from the ground up, and a large building block of that progression was government. Government has evolved from all of the country’s political positions, but most importantly its Presidents. The President is the chief executive of the United States who serves as both chief of state and chief political executive (Merriam-Webster). Our country has had a total of 44 presidents, all of whom were great leaders, but only a select handful have made the most out of their presidency by making a vast impact on our society as well as our country as a whole. One of these well remembered political figures is our 16th President Abraham Lincoln. Numerous aspects should be known about Lincoln, both in and out of the limelight: his upbringing, political career before election, campaign style, the important policies and decisions he made, as well as major events during his Administration. Although his presidency was shortened by his unfortunate assassination, Lincoln still left as vast of an impact as any other president in America’s history.
To understand Abraham Lincoln and how he became the great leader he was to our country you must first learn of his upbringing. Lincoln was born February 12th, 1809 in Hodgeville, Kentucky to Thomas Lincoln and Nancy Hanks. Thomas and Nancy also had two other children Sarah, and Thomas, who died in infancy. The family lived for only a short while on farm land in Kentucky until in winter of 1816 they were faced with a lawsuit which challenged the title of the land. Lincoln’s father Thomas then moved the family to southern Indiana where they lived as squatters until Thomas built a permanent cabin and bought the land. At the age of 7 Lincoln helped his father grow and harvest crops on their land, but disliked to help him hunt and fish. Only two short years after the family’s resettlement, Lincoln’s
