With advancements in technology, some students have chosen to complete their schoolwork through the Internet, rather than in traditional classrooms. Those who support a traditional classroom approach to learning argue that it provides more of an opportunity for students to interact with the teacher and other students. Those who feel that learning over the Internet is better argue that it allows students to learn anytime and anywhere they choose. Do you feel education is better provided in traditional classrooms or when offered over the Internet? Write an essay to be read by a classroom teacher in which you persuade the reader that either traditional classroom education or Internet-based learning is better. Gold Medal problems present you with an opportunity to investigate complex, interesting problems over several days. The purpose is to focus on the process of solving complex problems. You will be evaluated on your ability to show, explain, and justify your work and thoughts. Save all your work, including what does not work in order to write about the processes you used to reach your answer. Completion of a Gold Medal Problem includes four parts: • Problem Statement: State the problem clearly in your own words so that anyone reading your paper will understand the problem you intend to solve. • Process and Solutions: Describe in detail your thinking and reasoning as you worked from start to finish. Explain your solution and how you know it is correct. Add diagrams when it helps your explanation. Include things that did not work and changes you made along the way. If you did not complete this problem, describe what you do know and where and why you are stuck. • Reflection: Reflect on your learning and your reaction to the problem. What mathematics did you learn from it? What did you learn about your math problem solving strategies? Is this problem similar to any other problems you have done before? If yes, how? • Attached work: Include all your work and notes. Your scratch work is important because it is a record of your thinking. Do not throw anything away.…

I believe that each child is unique individual who needs a secure, caring, and stimulating atmosphere in which to grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially. It is my desire as an educator to help students meet their fullest potential in these areas by providing an environment that is safe, supports risk-taking, and invite a sharing of ideas. There are three elements that I believe are conducive to establishing such an environment namely, the teacher acting guide, allowing the child’s natural curiosity to direct his/her learning, promoting respect for all the things and all the people.…

As the Hispanic population in the United States grew over the last ten years, colleges experienced increased enrollments of the same. As with any significant enrollment increase, colleges attempted to find ways to increase student retention rates, especially that of minorities. Mercy College is one institution that experienced significant growth in their Hispanic student enrollment, along with it success in retaining this group of students (Stern, 2010). In part, their success was credited to the following:…

Institution: City & Guilds Course: 6302 Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector PTLLS Unit: 1 Task: Theory 1 Words: 1231 Title: Describe what your role, responsibilities and boundaries would be as a teacher in terms of the teaching/training cycle. As a teacher in Beauty Therapy I would have many roles and responsibilities some of which can be lesson planning, identifying a students needs and referring students to other agencies or services, to set goals and motivate students, understand and respect students, attend meetings so I can keep up to date with relevant guide lines and legislation relating to my subject in which I teach, to name just a few. Teachers require many skills and qualities such as knowledge in the subject in which they teach, confidence, being organised and trustworthy. I also have a duty of care to my students to look after their health and safety in the environment in which I teach. I have to set boundaries within which to work, in order to keep my student/teacher relationship on a professional level and to be able to deliver quality teaching within a safe environment. In terms of the training cycle a teachers’ role and responsibilities involve the following: Identifying needs It is essential I find out the needs of the subject and students in order to plan lessons. Students’ needs should be established from interviews, application forms, ice-breakers etc. Any special requirements can be picked up at this stage and planned for e.g. dyslexia, dysphasia and also any disabilities which may influence class location e.g. access, specialised equipment etc. I will discuss with the student what he or she wants to achieve and how to go about this, the objectives are the steps taken to attain this outcome. Management of student behavior is a major challenge in creating an environment conducive to learning. Discipline is a necessary part in managing student behavior. My approach to discipline is assertive in that I intend to minimize all interruptions to the learning process and environment. However, I will enforce discipline without being overly stringent. My challenge is to find a judicious balance between friendliness needed for building rapport and discipline needed for an effective instructional experience to occur. I have found that a person's zeal for discipline can sometimes alienate a student. However, that same person can just as easily lose control with an eagerness to please. It is always my intent to draw a line between the two extremes and offer a judicious, friendly, and mutually respectful environment in which positive relationships can develop and learning can occur.…

This is a really good class. I learned a lot of knowledge about reading, writing and grammar and I improved my language ability, especially writing in here. I also made friends with many people who come from variety countries in here. During this term my writing and reading abilities has dramatically increased, because each week I write two journals and study many new vocabularies from class. Writing journal and studying new vocabulary is a good way to help me to improve my writing skill, it should be stayed same. Moreover, the instructor shows students many basic knowledge, such as grammar which is very important to learn for us. In this class I did many practice about grammar, it is very useful. However, in the class, I think students should be given more time to discuses and communicate, because I think team working is a very good way to learn and review. I also would like added more homeworks, because it will give students more pressure to study and improve our writing ability. I really like this class and I enjoin it and it helps me a lot.…

There has been an ongoing debate in the circle of social and political scientists whether an organized society should be responsible to serve the individual citizen's true end, i.e., his real needs and rights, such as freedom, growth, peace, security, privacy, etc. Or, is it the citizen who is to be held responsible for and made subservient to the society's needs, "in the interest of the common good"? Such "either-or" ideological confrontation is created mainly by doctrinaire philosophers, if not by the politicians with vested interests. In reality, both these claims are artificially projected. They could be made mutually complementary when properly balanced in a truly liberal and enlightened community. For, nothing and no one exists in complete isolation. At the same time, a healthy and truly civilized society thrives on co-operation between citizens, office-bearers, and authorities in any institution where an individual's voice is respected and valued. However, these ideological stands can be analyzed and understood in the light of the universal teachings of Theosophy and of some social philosophers like Plato, Socrates, Hegel, etc.…
