Consequently, Acadia located downwind from large urban and industrial areas. Periodically, high concentrations of air pollution blow into the park hurting all the natural beauty, plants and animals in the park. Thankfully, in 1979 Acadia received Class 1 area under the Clean Air Act, which means the park deserves the highest level of air-quality protection. Ever since then, the nearby towns have worked hard to lower their air pollution, to help create a better environment for not only Acadia, but the state of Maine. (National Park Service,
