Describing my own diverse background would be incomplete without noting my alternative education. To accommodate my hectic schedule as a professional dancer, I enrolled in online school in seventh grade and continued through junior year of high school. Committing to cyber academics, as opposed to traditional brick-and-mortar school, has given me a progressive mind. While online teachers are available anywhere from 24 to 48 hours following a content inquiry, the classwork was mostly self-taught. The autonomy allowed by The University would lend itself to my abilities as an academic and a leader. I foresee myself as an influential figure - someone to offer guidance and support when someone is challenged with accepting or understanding diversity. Having been in the public eye as a professional ballet dancer meant I had become a role model. My experiences in rehearsal, backstage, and when leaving the theaters, put me in direct contact with up-and-coming dancers and those with various backgrounds. I had to think on my feet, exhibiting through my actions and words what it means to embrace our differences. I want to demonstrate the beauty of welcoming and accepting diversity. People's differences create a complex and unique portrait. Without those variations, our world would be
